Recent Beowulf purchasers??

I ordered a Beowulf upper from Competition Shooting Sports MONTHS ago. It hasn't shown.. and their email correspondence has been sketchy. But they say it's Alexander Arms fault. I called AA and they said they're delivering in 4 wks.
So who's lying?

I might also add that friend of mine ordered one just a week or two earlier than I, directly from AA.. he got his a while ago. Competition Shooting Sports said, "Well, he must of snuck his order in just right before AA fell behind."

Can anyone here share recent experience of delivery times on these and from what vendors? It would be a big help. Thank you.

You're not the only guy that wants a .50 Beowolf upper, they're a high demand item. Waiting sucks, but if you want the cool, new, highend stuff sometimes you have to wait.

Most places, including Competition Shooting Sports, have no control over when they will receive products from distributors or manufacturers. Competition Shooting Sports is at the mercy of their supplier.

Alexander Arms is producing a specialty item that requires many unique parts, that are expensive to manufacturer and ordered in a low volume. They have to find someone that has the ability make the unique parts and has the capacity to machine them and does it at a reasonable price. Sometimes that involves waiting. Alexander Arms is at the mercy of their suppliers.

And the problems go on and on.

Waiting happens, setbacks happen, it's the nature of the beast. There's a good chance that no one is intentionally "lying" to you.

I'm in the same situation waiting for my oly arms k45 that I want to send off to SRT.

Alexander Arms is an even smaller company than Olympic Arms, and as far as I can tell, their products are in even higher demand right now. So just be patient and the wait should hopefully be worth it. Your reseller probably has no idea when it will get the merchandise and will just ship it to you when they get it.

The 50 Beowolf upper, while in high demand, is still a limited/niche market item. I have to agree with your supplier. Your friend probably got one of the last ones before they were out of units from the last production run. Their ammo is the same way, so order now. A co-worker bought one (complete gun) and then had to wait several more weeks for ammo. Unless anything has changed in the last month or two AA is the only supplier of ammo and brass. If you don't reload I'd advise you start; order brass and dies pronto. After that you can get powder, bullets, primers, and a press easily. Your savings and convience of loading specialty ammo like the 50 Beo will quickly pay for the press and dies.

On the same note I was highly UN-IMPESSED with workmanship on the AA rifle. The bolt carrier had so many tool marks it looked like it was "hand chisled from bar stock" was the comment of the local gunshop owner who recieved the rifle for him. Tool marks abounded on all other internal surfaces as well. The bolt movement when manually cycled was very rough and gritty. Now you can polish all that up easily, but on $1000+ rifle I find that type of fit & finish unacceptable. That's what I would expect on $300 FM Hi-Power copy. However, the rifle is perfectly functional and the black finish over the parts was very good. I can remember a few years ago when Bushmaster was sending out the "Purple People Eaters"; the anodizing was a deep purple and not black, so finish problems are by no means exclusive to any gun maker.

So keep in mind that you're getting a specialty product with limited production and high demand - delays should, unfortunately, be expected. Be patient and keep us updated. When it arrives let us know how the fit & finish on yours is. Hopefully my co-worker got a bad one that is not typical of AA's quality. Also, post some pics if you can, and let us know how it shoots. More importantly, hasn't AA been hawking these things for a couple/three/four years now? You'd have thunk that they'd have used that time to stock up on a few key long lead time parts or sumptin'.

Not trying to bash them too hard, but let's face it - they've been playing this game for a while now and they're not showing many signs of getting more mature.

The barrel and...what?

Just off the top of my head:

Upper Reciever (Enlarged ejection port)
Magazines (modified feed lips)
Bolt (7.62x39 bolt)

Out of all the parts there is little demand relative to the rest of the market. And the manufacturers that can produce the parts, don't have excess capacity (DPMS, CMT, LMT, DHG, Brownells, CP......) they sell 223/5.56 M16/AR15 parts as fast as they can make them.

The bolt should be pretty easy - the only things that they need to procure that's nonstandard are the upper, the barrel, and the magazines. I would imagine that the upper is the longest lead time part, but they should be able to buy them in periodic lots.

The bolt is an off the shelf part. That's the point of the rebated rim.

The 6.5 Grendel may perhaps be taking some of their time away from the 50.

I just received an E-Mail from Alexander Arms that said lead time was at 12 to 16 weeks. so I would guess that an order placed by a dealer would be filled first come first served. If that is where they are getting you upper from. Sorry no good news here.
