Good news on pistol powder

I don't know where you all are finding Titegroup but I am quite jealous. Nobody in/around York, PA or Mesa, AZ has it and I'm running low :(
LGS in north Idaho had a bunch a couple of days ago, wasn't selling too well.

Shotgun powders for pistols huh? Don't tell anybody, but American Select is the best pistol/handgun powder made in my opinion.

I like it very much also.

Not so funny story involving AmerSel: One of my first reloading sessions a year or two ago, I got everything ready, or so I thought, and as I was pouring the powder into the hopper it immediately just started pouring out from the bottom of the hopper all over the press and floor...:banghead:

I had failed to switch my Pro Auto Disc to the off position and didnt have a charge disc in the measure. Thankfully it was (is) a 4 lb jug. That's a mistake you only make once, especially with the pistol powder market being how it is. I ALWAYS make sure the hopper is in the "off" position now, and also that I have a charging device in place.

I did that too........once.
Bullseye was all over the freaking bench. And it was recently with no Bullseye to be found. :banghead:

Needless to say, I check now.

LGS around here gets Titegroup, but it never makes it to the shelf, even at $21.95/1lb. I have one that sets a 1lb'er back for me everytime he gets some in. H335 seems to be available in most shops. I picked up 3lb yesterday.

That is the honest truth, I have seen it with my own eyes. Most will cling to their Bullseye and Titegroup which I understand, but the stuff might as well be called 4538. Aliant missed their market with that one.

I bought HP-38 and Titegroup the other day, and my range had cfe pistol. When I bought the HP-38, they had that, WIN231, tight group, and bullseye. No limit!

Did the same thing with mine...Unique on the floor!

In a small gunshop today, he had 6 pounds of Bullseye, and 3 of Unique. First time I have found any for several months. He said they were delivered just this morning, didn't know when he would get more.

I was tempted with some Alliant e3 on Tuesday.
Sportsman Warehouse had 7 pounders on the shelf at $19.99 lb.

Was thinking the whole shotgun powder/pistol powder thing.
Found just some info on web saying its similar to a ultra clean burning Red Dot, but no official loading data so I passed. :barf:

in the last month I have bought 748,aa#7 and longshot Im happy it seems to be coming
back slowly if your at the right place at the right time.

All pretty scarce here too in NE MO. One good thing about it all is that I am getting experience in other powders. I only used TiteGroup for 9mm & .45, and W760 for my 7mm-08 before. Now I have used some old AA #7, and HS-6 for the pistols, and Benchmark for the 7mm-08. I'm not sure I would have switched if not for the shortage. Now I know what to do next time. (Glass half full approach here :) )

Just got back from the gun show here in Knoxville. Winchester, Alliant and Hodgdon pistol powders were very scarce and what little there was (Unique and 700-X) were at very inflated prices, like $35/container.

Accurate pistol powders were an exception. #2, #7, and #9 were available but no #5.

Rifle powder choices were better. There was even an 8 pound jug of Accurate 2520, now that I do not need it.

I just got back from one here. Hardly any pistol. I saw a big jug of CFE pistol but passed when I saw that a LB of Auto Comp on the same table was OUTLANDISHLY priced.

< Giving 8 lb jug of Promo a hug >

Never thought I would have fondness for Promo ... to save other pistol powders.

Moving forward, I plan to always have 2-3 8 lb containers of Red Dot/Promo under my bench along with 2 8 lbs of W231/HP-38 along with 8 lbs of WSF/CFE Pistol.

Looks like things are slooooooowly getting better.

I was afraid I wouldnt be able to find data on CFE, isn't it one of the new ones?

That is some sound strategy. I used to keep 2 unopened 5lb jugs of AA#2 and one 8 lb if 2400. Then I would have an open one if each. Of course I have other assorted powders like power pistol and WST for example. I managed to never run out through this shortage, in part because of the awesome work of my LGS, but I sure got low. When I found that #2 and #5 this week it gave me a sigh of relief.

Yes but Hodgdon's website has a good bit of data for all the common pistol calibers. Sure that means you're only working from one set of data, and misprints do happen, but I'm sure Hodgdon was careful with putting the data out since they hyped it up and released it while most other powders were very scarce. Put out bad data while everyone is gobbling up every bit of powder around.....some monkeys who just load max charges and pull a lever are going to blow up guns and get a bad reputation out on their product. I'm sure they held back a little on the data, even if the listed pressures say otherwise.

But I could most certainly be wrong, it has surely happened before.

Scored a couple bottles of Tight Group yesterday at a gun show for 22 each. Not great but better than I've seen around here in over a year.

Well I might go back with dad today and check that price. He's picking up a sr22 that he fell in love with.

Hope to see more powders soon. Stopped by Cabelas today to find only 2#s of H50BMG.... NOTHING else was on the shelf at all! Finding rifle powder is hard and I haven't seen pistol powder for at least a year. :banghead:
