Recoil pad/butt plate for a 336 and will it fit a model 36?

I just picked up a Marlin 336 but it's missing the recoil pad. Can anyone recommend a prefit pad that will need minimal fitting or should I just buy a standard pad and fit it myself? The factory replacement on Midway has some really bad reviews as far as fitment goes so if I'm going to have some work to do I'd rather upgrade. Oh, and does anyone happen to know if the buttstock for the 336 and 36 are the same?
