I want to have a new recoil spring on hand for my S&W 6906 in case they get hard to find. It is a used gun and I don't know the life left in the spring. I'm looking at the Wolff springs on Midway's site, but don't know which one to pick. The factory size is 15lbs isn't it? Should I stick with that, or go to something a little heavier. I plink/target shoot with FMJ whatever is on sale, but want to start keeping some JHPs in it for the nightstand. For what it's worth, the 16lb and 17lb spring is the only one that isn't a special order. On the other hand, the S&W spring is $1.99. Any advice is appreciated. Also, any opinions as to whether or not to invest in the front night sights?

Thanks for the advice Lone H. If you were me, would you go with the S&W springs for $1.99 or spring for the Wolff?

I have a wolff 18lb spring in my S&W M910, but then again my favorite carry load is the federal +P+ 115gr jhp;) I regularly shoot lightly loaded (1050fps) 125gr LRN ammo at the range and the pistol is still reliable. IIRC wolff sells a recoil calibration pack pretty cheaply (~$30) and you get 5 springs between 14-20 lbs. I would also order a few +10% mag springs while you are at it!

The 16 pound wolff spring works excellent in the 6906. It will still cycle fine with the milder loads, lock the action up better and be a little easier on the frame in the process.
