I recently wrote up a review on the recoil buffer I put on my Colt 1911. After having such great results with the buffer, I thought I would replace the recoil spring. It's the factory original, and though it only has 1500 rounds through it, it was about thirty years old. I picked several from SprincoUSA.

I'm pretty impressed by the quality and material science put into the spring. Who would have thought it?

Me and the Sprinco 1911 spring.

I have an old school buffer. Basically it replaces the recoil spring guide. It has a heavy captive spring and plunger which is the cat's meow. It really works. I don't know if they make them anymore. If you can find one I highly recommend one.

Never used a recoil buffer, and a standard Wolff 16lb recoil spring works fine most of time, and if it ain't broke don't fix it. The Wolff XP mag springs work pretty good in a 7 or 8 round 1911 mag

Replace the firing pin spring when you replace the recoil spring and you're good to go. - skeeter_08

I think that shok buffs may have a place when shooting +P rounds of .45ACP (why would you want to?), and in M1911 designs using alloy or polymer frames.

Agree that there's no need in steel frames.

I put the guide rod and buffer into my .38 Super. I like it.

Mine is just a target/fun gun, so why not?
