I did some searches to see if this had been posted before, but was unable to locate anything.

My buddy sent me this video :what:

http://www.ranch.bz/misc/recoil.wmv

I am still trying to decide if it is real. The video is kind of crappy so it is hard to see what exactly he is holding. I know it isn't a revolver because the guy uses a two hand grip with one hand on the forend of the pistol. If it is real it obviously wasn't much of a grip because the gun goes flying out of view.

I can't believe people would really want to shoot something like that. It seems like it would be very hard to not develop a serious flinch!

What a frickin' MORON! And they wonder why the gun owning community gets so much undeserved bad press... :banghead:

Mark(psycho)Phipps( HAHAHA! )

That guy is just dumb.. 40 years ago, I fired a 600 nitro double rifle.. I was certain both of my shoulders were on the same side of my head after the shot.

Trying one of those in a pistol is just macho BS..He's lucky he didn't eat that thing.

What's the point? What are you looking for, an anti-ordinance pistol? What in God's name would a .600 do that a 50 cal can't do for all practical purposes anyway?

Stupid crap like that has little to do with "practical".

It's insane and dangerous. Setback like that would have NO problems breaking a few bones or teeth as it carries the gun off.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't a .45-70 cause I was thinking of getting a contender barrel in that caliber. :D So, there is such a thing as "too much" gun?:D Wonder if the hunter barrel with the built in compensator would have helped? Works great in .30-30.

I have fired a Contender in 45/70. Once. It hurt but the gun didn't fly from my hands.

Don't think I want to do it again though

Here is one of the pictures from the link that Soundwave posted. That pistol had to have cost him a couple of grand to build I wonder what he plans to use it for??

i hope hes got a lifetime guarantee on that scope. but then again i hope the scope company knows what kinda abuse its getting.

with as much recoil that thing has can you imagine what it might do if you didnt let go of it? kinda like having a tiger by the tail!

From the video, I'd say to find out whether you really can kill yourself with recoil. :scrutiny:

Darwin award, there...

600 Nitro Express is older than 50 BMG. It is a Black Powder cartridge introduced in 1899. It is not nearly as powerful as 50 BMG.

The factory load was a 900 gr bullet at 2050 fps, for a muzzle energy of 8400 ft-lbs.

50 BMG can easily acheive over 13,000 ft lbs.

That video looks faked. Righ before he fires you can see the poor editing where it looks like it skips a couple frames and the gun flies back as if pulled by a wire. And the guy just stands there with a fake look on his face instead of checking on his gun. The camera man also is not at all concerned with his buddy's health and just holds the camera instead of imediately going over to see if he is ok.

Hey, at this point we're talking semantics. I mean, 8400 ft lbs, 13K foot lbs, I don't think the guy's face could tell the difference...:what: Might be better to point that thing toward the inside of the blind and let the recoiling gun kill the elephant.:D

If it's a BP cartridge, why call it Nitro Express? Sounds like it should be smokless to me...

.600 Nitro...

For when when carpel tunning from the .500 Smith just isn't enough. I'd make a joke about hearing your bones in your hand crack, but you're probably already deaf.

I saw a .50 BMG pistol with muzzle break at a gun show once. I asked the owner if he had shot it and he had said no and he would never try.
