Just picked up an Arsenal SAM-7 AK-47 and it didn't come with a muzzle brake. I'm presently considering the AK-74 style muzzle brake (for the AK-47). Can anyone recommend a good quality AK-74 style muzzle brake that would match the finish on the Arsenal AK? The finish on the metal including the barrel appears to be a black paint (somewhat glossy). A gray parkerized one wouldn't look too good.

The most advanced AK brake on the market is from PWS, (formerly AK Concepts). It works really well.

I've shot a lot of full auto AKs, and this brake works better than anything else I've ever tried. Plus it isn't that much louder than a plain muzzle.

Tapco sells a 74 style brake that is reamed for a 7.62 slug. It's a dark blued almost black finish. I have one on my MAK90 underfolder and it works well.

The best quality model I've found for the 7.62 is the AK-74 style sold by Brownell's.
This one is a much higher quality build, with a better shaped and contoured exhaust area at the front.
Finish is a slightly glossy deep blue.

The Tapco and others are rather crudely made by comparison.

The absolute best are the original Eastern European military AK-74 brakes which are hard chrome lined and are a more refined design with an interior baffle.
The down side to these is the price, and that they have to be drilled out to clear the 7.62 bullet since they're made for the 5.45.

Note the E-294 and the B-615 down at the bottom.

AK Muzzle Brake

I got one for my Arsenal AK (underfolder and milled receiver-- very nice) from Cope's Distributing out of Ohio somewhere. Just fifteen bucks. They also have Romanian 75-round drums for a hundred bucks (got one), 30-round banana mags for $15 (I got six; made by Pro-Mag and made in USA), pouches and many other AK items as well as AR-15 items. They also deal in 10/22 stuff, among other guns.

Word to the wise: I bought a "surface rust" 75-round drum that won't work worth a clinton. I have tried to get in touch with them to get some sort of remedy from them, but no dice. I have emailed twice and called once. I would only buy new stuff from them; they don't seem to be too interested in straightening out problems with their "second-tier" goodies...

Thank you for the links to the sources. I'm looking for one that's kind of glossy so I think the Brownells one might be the way to go.

NVShooter, what does the one from Cope's Distributing look like (the finish)? The price is great ($15) but I have heard bad things about Cope's before (not to be confused with Cole Distributing who are good).
