Hi,
I don't intend to carry this pistol, so IWB is not preferred. I have had good luck with Comp-tac and blade-tec holsters for my other pistols, and cheap plastic uncle mike's belt holsters have been my bread and butter for most of them for informal/club competition use. One of those would be fine IF it's IDPA legal. I'm not good at interpreting all the silly rules, and am rather ambivalent about shooting IDPA matches at all, but I have a buddy who wants me to start shooting with him.

Something like this looks good, and it says IDPA legal so I have to take their word for it. But $80 is a bit steep IMO.

But if you check the options it seems there's not one offered for the M&P 9. just .45. Mistake?

I'd think that is a "ballpark" going rate for that quality of holster.

That does seem odd on the Comp-Tac Belt Holster selection section. I've noticed in the past, they also don't show that holster available for the G17/G22. That Glock frame is probably one of the most popular pistols in the world. It seems silly they wouldn't offer this holster for the G17/G22. However, Comp-Tac lists those pistols with other holster models in their line-up, so I suspect if they offer a different holster for a particular pistol, they'd probably offer the Belt Holster for that gun too.

Most of these makers sell a bunch of holsters to IDPA guys, so I suspect they know what the rules are. Tell them what you want when you order, and I suspect you'll be fine.

CompTac makes a popular IDPA holster, but they don't make one for everything. Notice they make L- and N-frame S&W revolver holsters, but not one for a K-frame?

I went from a CompTac revolver holster to a D&D, which are made locally. Both "D" and "D" are top IDPA masters (one's a DM, in fact), and their work is top-notch, and definitely IDPA-legal. Their website (link below) is pretty basic, and gives the impression they only make revolver & 1911 holsters, but they make M&P & Glock holsters as well. My 1st D&D rig was for a revolver, but just got one for an M&P40 and it works great. You can get it with or without the CF weave. Good price, too.

BTW what mag pouches are legal? Is there a limit to how many you can have on your belt?

Thanks again. Those ready tactical and talon look like a good product for the price to me.

Comp Tac is transitioning their OWB holsters to their International...which is $10 less expensive and offers a complete array of mounting options. For IDPA make sure to specify the International Belt (or Paddle) mount as opposed to the Drop/Offset one

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I guess if I want one of the current Belt Holster's I'll have to order soon.

To me, the International makes sense for the Paddle holster change as they did when they changed the Pro-Undercover IWB to the Infidel, as I suspect constantly flexing that clip attachment would wear it out and eventually snap it off. The replaceable clips probably give better long term durability. However, I wonder if the fixed loops of the current Belt Holster may prove more durable than the new design. You do get more options for cant and ride height with the new International, much like you do with Blade-Tech's holsters, but it seems as if there is something to be said for less hardware as is the case on the current Belt Holster model.

I think part of it is the case of being able to compete with Blade Tech. Blade Tech's Stingray belt attachment offers more stable attachment to the belt...plus is adjustable for belt width

The advantage, from the production point of view, is they not longer have to offer a separate Belt and Paddle holster...or drop/offset mountings...they only have to produce one holster body

Thanks. That's one IDPA rule I was aware of; I have a couple blade-tec DOHs for my 1911s and I like them a lot.

I'll check out the others.

Thanks, I didn't see that one before. Looks like a winner. I can order the DOH mount for 3-gun or USPSA stuff also. I'll confirm that the M&P Pro C.O.R.E. will work with its highers sights and then order one.

You can find the IDPA rules on their website. There's a section about holsters. Men can not use a drop offset, but women can. The trigger must be covered and there's a maximum spacing between gun and body. That holster looks legal. Blade-tech will have something similar.

I have to remove the drop offset from mine when I shoot IDPA and replace it when I shoot USPSA. It's a pain, so I'll eventually get a second holster for IDPA.

For the record the safarliand one works perfectly with the CORE's higher sights and seems very well made. The "safari-suede" lining is a nice touch, as was the free hat and magazine pouch they included in the box.
