I seem to have trouble using the standard blade type sight on my TC 50 cal muzzle loader. I have bad eyes and LASIK very man years ago. I really want to hunt with it but ma have to get an inline so I can get a scope. Anyone have the same gun or recommend a peep sight/tang sight they rcommend. Does the front sight also need to be changed? Thnx

I have replaced most of my Buckhorn style sights with Williams/Lyman or Thompson peep sights. I also generally replace the front blade with a much smaller front bead. When you look through the aperature, the front sight will appear much larger than it already was and block much of your field of vision otherwise.

Quick answer: Williams peep sights.

tang

on the tang on my TC i noticed that there are 3 screwes. two large ones with a third smaller once centered. is this where the tang sights go or will i need to drill? is the front sight easy to change? it looks too big for a peep sight.

The front sight was easy enough to replace. Drift it out from left to right in it's dovetailed slot. The new one will need to be filed and fitted , then drifted in from right to left.

I don't remember the hole arrangement for the rear sight. But do take your time ordering the correct sight. There are a surprizing number of wrong ones.

If I had adequate clearance I usually just left the existing buckhorn sight in place folded down. Or, if I needed to, drifted it out and replaced with a plug to avoid sharp exposed edges.

Since you have the three screws on your tang the factory peep will fit right on. The middle screw is just a keeper, the top screw is reused and you will receive a replacement machine screw for the middle. You really won't need to replace the front sight, your eye will naturally center it in the rear peep. The only gripe I have is that the supplied peep is too small, makes it harder to aquire the target in low light hunting situations. I replace mine with a drilled thru machine screw, works fine.

Track of the Wolf has a variety of peep sights. I installed their front globe sight on my Traditions Frontier. They come with about a dozen extra sight shapes for you to try. Be sure to choose the globe sight with the metric base wedge, if you have a Spanish or Italian rifle.

lyman makes a model 57 peep sight that will fit your rifle with out tapping as it has three holes in the tang. i have a adjustable merit aputure in mine. eastbank.

Looks good on there. Optics planet says model 57 is listed for mausers, and other similar guns. Is it not listed for the TC hawken type? Thnx
