First off, I know I can cut the front sight gas block down, but I don't want to. I'll pull it and sell it, along with the barrel nut, delta ring, handguards, etc as a package when I install my xmas free float tube.

That said, anybody have a quality low profile, budget priced gas block they can recommend? midway has yankee hill for $23+ship, and oodles of them in the low $30 range, amazon has an aluminum one for $8 that looks a little scary. I'd love to be below $20 shipped.

I doubt the gun will ever see 3k rounds, will never experience a mag dump, and will just not be run very hard. I don't give a rip about "milspec" as long as it holds up.

Pretty much any of the "low pro" gas blocks fit the bill. You can spend as little, or as much as you like but it will still do the same thing. I personally go for mil spec/quality, but cheap parts have their place (such as what you describe, low round count plinking rifle).
