I would like to get some recommendations as to good belts (gun belts). Please let me know make and where I can find them. I would also appreciate if there are features I need to look for and avoid.
Wilderness Instructor belt!!!! I was un-sure even after reading nothing but good things about them. I got mine for Christmas, I won't wear another belt ever again!
I picked up a Don Hume about a year ago, at one of the gunshows in Houston, TX. It is very well made and though I wear it at least 8 hours a day, still looks like new. Mine is 1.5" wide.
Check out simplyrugged.com. I have one of his holsters and it rocks. I have on order a pocket holster and a belt, should be here soon. oh yeah, don't forget to check out the prices.
Go to a tack shop and ask for a near-side latigo. That's the strap that holds the saddle on. It makes a great belt, and costs less than a name-brand gun belt.
I have two from Galco, one leather (which my expanding waistline has rendered a "goal" belt, now--curse you, expanding waistline) which I was extremely satisfied with, and one made of BioThane, which so far I am quite happy with, and seems to work, but it's still being evaluated.
The leather one was about...hm, maybe $80; the biothane one was around $30.
+1 for wild bill's. I have a belt I bought two years ago that you can hardly tell I've worn, although I wear it @ every other day, and have two holsters for my 340sc and my 1911. Excellent quality and finish, and not priced way out of range. Also, he's a nice guy to boot. Talked with him at several gun shows.
Also, check out Bob Mernickle. He makes some awesome stuff as well.
Beltman, I have a 1.25" horsehide, and my dad has a 1.25" bullhide and we both love them. I also have two 1911 IWBs that he doesn't really make anymore, and a keltec .380 holster from him. Pictured:
