recommendations for a .22

The thing about .22s is that they are all good and you very rapidly get into steep diminishing returns. There are lots of good .22s from $100 - $400 and all of them are sound and as accurate (truth be known :)) as 95% of their users. You want quality you can hear drip? Go to the upper end for a CZ 452. You want bang for the buck? Get a pre accutrigger Savage Mark II F for $117 at Wallys. You want rapid bangs and the ability to dress it up like Power Rangers? Get a 10/22 for somewhere in between.

I have a 452 and a Marlin 39, but I'm impressed at what you can get for about 125 and under, new or used. I think we'll all look back to now and wish we had grabbed all the good cheap .22s we could, and stocked up on ammo.

Marlin clearly states without ambiguity, the mod 60 is the all time best selling semi auto 22, with more units made, and sold , worldwide, than any other semi auto 22.

And that's really saying something, because the Marlin 60 is not only competing with other brands' semi-autos, Marlin is also competing with itself, with the model 70/700/795/7000, unlike Ruger which has only one model of semi-auto .22.

I just bought my wife a Marlin 795 on the recommendation of a gunsmith buddy. It was bought on sale at Gander Mtn. for $149.99, it's their rifle and scope (Bushnell) combo - regular price is $169 I think - and I'm not disappointed.

Marlin has some deal with Gander Mtn. on the combo, you can't buy the rifle by itself. For that price, who would argue? If a person didn't need/want the scope, it could be sold easily for $30-40.

For your reasons stated, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Marlin 795.

You can upgrade the 10/22 later, not so with the other guns. However, it has a bad trigger, not sure how it compares to the other guns. I think the marlin 795 is even lighter than the 10/22, not sure if the 597's lighter or heavier.

The 795 is lighter than the 10/22 in the front end. I know some folks who have been adding lead inside the fore stock for that reason. If a person wanted to shoot the 795 with iron sights, I would recommend an aftermarket type - Tech sights are pretty decent.

I also know some folks who have done some minor trigger work on the 795. I have shot dozens of 10/22s in different configurations, but out of the box, it's hard to beat the 795s price/performance ratio.

i have many .22 my top 2 is the 10/22 and the model 60
they are both great guns and both are bone stock with my shooting and the different sights i cant tell u the accuracy comparison but the 10/22 has jammed a couple of times and is kinda ammo picky and the model 60 is not at all shoots everything u feed it and every time u pull the trigger another big plus that most dont mention is the model 60 action is half as loud they are both good but if u can only have one go with the Marlin Model 60
