Can anyone recommend a dealer who will do the FFL requirement for online purchase (in Houston or surrounding area)?
Are the prices quoted about the same accross the board?

Also, does it seem odd to anyone else to ask for this service at a regular shop, it is pretty much telling them you like their shop and service, but don't want to pay for it. I don't mind paying a little more at a regular store if it is off by a reasonable amount, but when the difference is closer to $200, it makes a difference.
Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Trey

Trey,

There is an FFL in our club (http://www.bayourifles.org), who does transfers for club members, and I'm 95% sure he does them for non-members too. He is in Houston. His fees are very reasonable.

I have a call in to him, and will ask him about all this for you when he calls me back. If he does indeed do transfers for non-members, I will find your post again and PM you.

there is another Class III Dealer i know fairly well in Houston I'd recommend:

Dan Whittig / TX Firearm Sales
(281) 414-7493
[email protected]

he does the same gun show circuit as me and has good feedback on sturmgewehr.com and subguns.com BOI.

i think he charges $20ish for Title I firearms and $50ish for Title II firearms.

i know this is my first post here, but i am normally on sturmgewehr.com.

trey,

if you feel weird about asking for a shop to do an FFL, I'd ask them to try come close to meeting the price you are getting somewhere else. "I'd really like to give you guys my business, but some guy two states over is undercutting you by $200. Can you guys come close to that?" I used to do this all the time, usually without much success, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I'm in Austin now, but I used to do business with the Ammo Dump. . .can't remember what they charged. www.gunsamerica.com has a link on the first page where you can type in your area code and it lists FFLs and their costs. I typed in 713 and there seem to be a couple of guys doing it for $5, which is what I charge to do them.

good luck in your search,
waterhouse

I'm not much help in your situation, but I just had the same problem.

I have a few firearms, all grandfathered down to me, and that was my collection until last week. I wanted to purchase a Sig from the new CDNN catalog, and having never really used 1 shop for ALL my needs, I really didn't have a contact with an FFL. Plus, the range I use is in OH, and I live in KY, so those guys were no help to me.

SO....I called CDNN and they actually were very helpful. They had a list of FFL's in my area, and there was one on file with them right down the street from my house! Within walking distance! I called down there, got the ok, and $35 bucks later, we were in buisness.

I know $35 is higher than what alot of other people pay, but, karma payed me back. This used trade in P229 tutone could not be distingushed from new, and shoots like a dream. I now know a little more about the process, and will have an idea on how to do better next time.

I payed $429 to CDNN by the way. Jerry rocks!!!

I'll make a thread on this tommorrw when I take some pictures!!
