recommendations for anti-theft storage?

jeepnik,

True, America's going "South" big-time (and faster than I had expected living to see) but the problem with being an ex-pat living in/retiring to another country is that NONE of them have our particular Constitution nor our Bill of Rights, and especially the 2nd Amendment/RKBA. Even on paper.

Switzerland would be nice (have been there) but you have to have a very high retirement income or else they don't want you -- no "deadbeats" may apply! And, I only speak English and not up to learning another language at my age. :-(

So, since we have 50 states here in the so-called Union of States, and as I move about every 4 years, I'll probably just stay here in the US...and can only hope I don't run out of the more "gun friendly" states to choose from! ;-)

I said C O U N T Y, not country.

Your legal residence is the place that's on you DL, where you are registered to vote, etc. It doesn't say anywhere that you can't have other property somewhere else, and it doesn't say how much time you must spend at each residence.

For my home defense gun it keeps all unauthorized hands off my weapon. It doesn't matter if we host a party, kids come over, or we are having some kind of repair or work done at the house.

At night, they are easy to leave open if you prefer. With the mechanical lock (Simplex style) you can pre-punch all or part of the code when you go to sleep. That will allow you to just punch the final button or two in your code, or if you pre-punched all just a turn of the knob. In the morning just a 1/4 turn counterclockwise resets the combination.

What I would love would be if you made your safes with a setup like https://www.corporatetravelsafety.com/catalog/vehicle-security-lock-box.html -- I would have one sleeve bolted somewhere hard to get at for storing the gun when I'm not home, another sleeve in the area where I sit and work during the day to keep the gun readily accessible without having to wear it, and another in the car. At night I don't want my gun locked up, I want to be able to grab it without getting out of bed.

Well, this is scheduled for production in about a month from now. It's designed for people that need to store their CCW when they can't can't it and need to leave it in a car, etc. With only a keyed lock, it doesn't provide quick access.

You certainly could mount brackets in different locations as you describe. It will also have a heavy duty cable available, not the tiny ones you are use to seeing with portable safes. It will cost a lot more than the example you show above, but will have a very good quality lock (same as our In&Out lock) and can be keyed the same if you already have one our safes with that lock option. It is also 11GA steel vs the 16GA example you show.

This photo is a prototype and there will be some minor changes for production.

Oh boy, great news! :) You'll be selling extra brackets separately? Will you be making different sizes? Or if not, what will the interior dimensions be? What happens when the key is turned in the lock, does the top open like your other ones or if not, how does the user remove the gun?

Yes, extra brackets will be available separately along with 5/16" x 4' security cables.

No, one size right now.

Approx. 9"L x 6.5"W x 1.5"H inside.

The key locks the door and if on the bracket, it locks the box to the bracket. You have to open the door as this is really just for storage when needed. The interior will be padded and foam on the door to hold your gun in place when closed.

This box is being made because I have a lot of requests for something substantially stronger than the typical lock box this size. Mainly for a vehicle application when you need to leave your gun behind. I don't really see this as a quick access option for you where you sit during the day. Nothing with a key only is designed for quick access.

This photo is with a G17 and G26 to give you a better reference on size.

Thanks for the information. I guess it will not fit my 4" 686 Plus then, unless maybe diagonally? Any chance you can try one to see?

Have you considered making brackets for your regular models? Or a version with brackets? Something like that is what I was really dreaming of.... I think a lot of people would like a way to keep their gun close by while working without having to wear it all day, but wouldn't want that location to be their storage location.

(Before everybody starts posting about the magnet holsters, this is California where we have earthquakes, and we are talking about a not-flatsided 2½ lb gun. I think anything over maybe 3.2 would result in it falling. Yes, I know the likelihood of a revolver going off from being dropped is way less than a semi-automatic, maybe even theoretically impossible, but maybe because I'm both an old lady and a gun newbie I feel very nervous about the idea of it falling.)

I don't think your 686 will fit and it will be very close even on the height due to the width of your guns cylinder.

I don't get a lot of requests for a mounting bracket, but I do get a few. Something to consider for future models. Most people don't want to drag around a 25+ pound safe/gun. It gets old quick [emoji15]

I do have quite a few customers that have a safe in their bedroom and another in their office/home office where they spend a lot of time. More expensive, but a lot easier to just move the gun. I do this as well and also pocket carry a .380 at home.

I will be offering a HD cable for all safes shortly for the people that want to attach them somewhere but can't bolt them down.

You could hollow out a book on your bookshelf.
Now that my gun is almost here and I'm focusing on this stuff I actually thought of that. Considering the size of my library it seems like a good idea.

Meanwhile for keeping it close while I'm sitting and working I think I found an under-desk holster, http://www.amazon.com/Stone-Safety-...1442786930&sr=8-7&keywords=under+desk+holster -- any thoughts?

For night-time, I would like a bed holster type setup, dithering over choices, maybe I will make a separate thread on this later. Meanwhile interested in any comments and/or suggestions on this idea...

25 lbs, yes, kind of a lot to drag around, you are right.

Thankfully I think I'm getting some clarity on where to keep it at home, but would still like a way to secure it inside the car so I wouldn't have to worry if I want to make other stops on range visits. Only idea so far, absent a securing method, is to make the other stops first. Might just KISS and go with that.

The good thing is that today you have plenty of choices available to find what is best for your application and what you are comfortable with. Access and security is always a give and take. Shoot me an email if I can ever be any help to you. Thanks for taking a look at my products.

Thank you so much, also for patiently answering my newbie questions. :)

I have to say, your safes are very elegant. :)

You know those little rare earth magnets encased in plastic that you can buy right on Amazon? They're advertised as being made to hold a handgun on the underside of a table, etc. They are so strong that I stuck a piece of Velcro (the "fuzzy" side) over one and it still holds a S&W Model 60 just perfectly. The Velcro makes it not only softer for the gun, but a tiny bit easier to pull the gun off the magnet. It has been under one of the end tables in my living room for a couple of years. The wife hasn't discovered it yet. :)

I understand the appeal of the magnet holders, but a 4" 686 weighs over 50% more than a model 60 and I live in earthquake country (California). Instead I ordered for my work area an under-desk holster that attaches with 4 screws (Amazon ASIN: B00M1S7C6Y).
