Hi All,

I am putting together a Christmas/Holiday Package for the soldier I was assigned by Soldiers' Angels, and for the others in his unit. I am hoping to collect enough through donations via my blog home page so that I can get them some nice items as oppposed to the usual snacks, and toiletries I send in such military care packages.

One of the items I would like to include at least a half dozen to a dozen of is a small high intensity tactical style flashlight. I am thinking of the following choices, and yes price will definitely be a deciding factor among other qualities of the light:

Surefire 6p

Surefire G2 Nitrolon (less expensive polymer bodied version of the 6P)

Streamlight TL-2 High Performance Xenon Tactical Light

Streamlight Scorpion Mini Flashlight - Xenon Bulb

Any pros or cons of these lights would be appreciated, as would recommendations for others in about the same price range - about $40 to $60each - preferably at the lower end of that range.

If you would like to know more about the package I plan to put together, or if you would like to make a donation, please visit my blog and look to the upper right hand side of the blog's home page. I am hoping to raise in between $500 and $1,00 for this, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

All the best,
Glenn B

If I get enough together to buy at least a half dozen of these lights, I will include a box or two of extra batteries.

Thanks,

I've used all of the lights mentioned and all will do the job for a soldier/police. I do like the TL2 better than the Scorpion since it's a brighter light and the pocket clip is nice for keeping it handy and not having to dig in a pocket for it. The Surefire's are just as good also. It all boils down to the best price you can get for them. Personally I would contact each manufacturer and tell them what you are doing and see what kind of deal they would cut you.

I like both the Streamlight TL2 & the SF G2. Performance wise, I prefer the Streamlight but for some reason, I like the 'feel' of the SF's I own/ use...they just feel like they're of better quality. I have no real proof of this one way or the other & my Streamlighs & SF have survived what I have to offer so take that for what it's worth ;)

I just found this Twin Task 2L Night Com flashlight. It looks as if this one could be very useful in military ops with a xenon bulb and three red LED bulbs. Any thoughts, anyone have one of these?

It is not the brightest flashlight at about 75 lumens for the Xenon bulb, but that is pretty bright as most flashlights go though nowhere near really high output lights. Yet it puts out more than either of the above Surefires with regular bulbs (they do about 65 lumens with the normal bulb, but can do about 115 with a high intensity bulb) and less than either of the Stremalights at about 114 lumens each). By the way, for comparisson, a Mini Mag-lite, 2 AA cells, puts out about 15 lumens, and a 3 D cell Mag-Lite puts out about 76. A 3 cell Mag-lite is pretty bright.

This Twin task 2L Night Com Streamlight also has the ability to use two Red LEDs for night work, or a single LED for maximum night vision protection. It would probably be good for map reading at night or looking for dropped items in the field or in the Humvee.

The price is right at about $40 each, and maybe I can get that discounted with the purcahse of 12 of them.

Let me know what you guys think.

I have sent pricing inquiries to both Streamlight and to Surefire.

Thanks,
Glenn B
