I want to learn some basic gunsmithing for my BP revolvers - any recommendations of books (I have a couple of colt clones)?

Thanks

Mic, I was looking also but could not find anything that will show a good step by step instruction of tuning a revolver. Loading, cleaning and that kind of stuff, but I have searched through Google and Yahoo and really can't find anything at all. With that said, other then filing down and smoothing a "hand" I find tuning a revolver tricky business.

There was a real good book on Amazon but I didn't buy it because of the price. I could kick myself for not buying it. I believe it was a Lyman published book

Here ya go Mictlanero,
I got this one from Amazon.

Black Powder Hobby Gunsmithing
[Paperback] by: Sam Fadala (Author) & Dale Storey (Author)
Published by: DBI Books (March 1994)
ISBN-10: 087349153X
ISBN-13: 978-0873491532

That is an interesting title, too bad that it seems to be so few and far between.
The "out of print/used" market is valuing copies of the title at between $85 and $190.00. Yikes!

That is rediculous !!!!
I paid about $19 last summer. This book aint even worth that much if you have any gunsmithing knowledge to begin with. It's 'ok' for beginners that have no knowledge.

I can't believe the amout of greed now adays.

I'd go with Jerry Kuhnhausen's book on the SA Colt. No one approaches Kuhnhausen (except for my teacher) in understanding how to fit parts in the Colt SA Revolver. We bought some Saddle Nut Files so we could rebuild hammers if necessary.

I should have bought many copies instead of gold but is anyone buying at these prices. Sometimes your local library has copies that you can check out but if you really NEED to own it then by all means have at it. I'll have to agree with Jim that this a lot of money for a beginners book.

I agree with 4v50Gary; Kuhnhausen's books are excellent, including some really great illustrations.

"Gunsmithing: Guns of the Old West" David Chicoine, covers lots of old west guns; Colts, S&W, cap and ball, Winchesters. I recommend it.

I've found the best prices for out-of-print books is: www.abebooks.com

It's a Canadian outfit so there is a slight premium for the exchange rate.
