Rapid fire? No problem.

When did they start allowing this? When I did the safety orientation back in '04 they told me no rapid fire. I was there this weekend breaking in my Stoeger cougar. I would have loved to have done a mag dump, just to see if the gun would hold up. I will have to ask next time I go back :)

I haven't been to PDHSC, only to Eagle 1 and Davi's. Davi's has a great selection, but their prices are very high (something to note: they do have sales regularly and *some*good deals if you look properly, like their "cash only" preferred pricing). There is a lady in there I chat with on occasion and she is very friendly, but I can't recall her name.

Eagle 1 has been my store as of late and I like their range quite a bit. You can do holster draws (if you get permission first) and rapid fire (assuming you shoot within your abilities) and most of the staff there is pretty laid back. Last time I was in there, they were playing the unedited "Pulp Fiction" movie on their TV and I sat down at the wooden table and watched a bit of it myself. It feels more like going to a friend's house than a shop, which is a good thing in my opinion. While there are some aloof staff members there, most of the guys are pretty easy-going and friendly. I recently bought my Springfield XD 40 from them and they offered to let me shoot it at their range while I waited for my (sigh) latest purchase permit to clear. That's good customer service and will have me coming back.

Well, I've been shooting there for years and they've never said anything to me. I see lots of shooters shooting fast and haven't seen them get in any trouble. I remember when I asked they said "shoot as fast as you are comfortable, if you ever need to defend yourself you won't be shooting timed fire..." They do watch through the windows and will correct shooters that appear to be unsafe.

If the left side range is open that's the best. You can shoot rapid, do magazine exchanges, drop your mags etc and not have to worry about interfering with other shooters. Set up barricades, shoot from seated position etc.

Never been to Eagle 1, they sound more like PDHSC than Davi's. I detest Davi's, but they do have a good selection of stuff.

The shop at Eagle 1 is small but they can order whatever you need, usually in a day. I have found that their bids on Gallery of Guns is higher than others by about $20. That's not a deal-breaker, IMO, but I usually go to Eagle for the range use. The shop does not have a great selection, but the staff is cool. I was at the range on Saturday and there was a safety class going on and the newbies were being treated well.

Went to Young Guns once and will never go back. Heard numerous similar tales, so I don't think it was just me.

Went to Ed's once, and liked it. Very friendly service, though only worked with one guy (Michael?). Since lots of folks appear to work there, it might be hit or miss. Still, I would go back more often, 'cept it's a hike (it's a solid hour to drive there from Raleigh/Cary).

In terms of FFL dealers, I like Big Sky in Apex. $25 for a transfer, and they're very friendly in there. Used them once, and would use them again.

I'd love to find a nice pawn shop (or similar), that's close to RTP. Been reading Xavier's pawn blog (he lives in New Orleans), and it sounds like there are numerous places where you can occasionally find a screaming deal. For example, I'd like to find a used HD shotgun for around $100. Not even sure where I'd start to look for something like that around here...
