Hello everyone,

I have some Berry's 200 Gr. plated Flat point bullets in .45 ACP. I would like a recommended softball load using 231 and Bullseye powders. What type of recoil spring do you recommend using with these loads?

Thanks in advance.

5.5 Grs W-231, Standard spring.

5.0 Grs W-231. Standard spring.

Lower? dunno.

Try 5.8 gr. Unique standard spring Works well for me. It isn't as dirty as you might think.

Yes, the "new" Unique is a good bit cleaner, but the "dirt" in Unique, while I've always found to be plentiful, was never very adherent and came off easily.

I've used 6.0gr unique for all my .45ACP loads from 185gr to 230 gr with any bullet and any primer for tens of thousands of rounds over many years. Never a problem and I don't have to futz with the powder measure when I get a new bullet supplier.

I've gone as high as 7.2 gr with Winchester FMJ back when I was chronographing everything and trying many different bullets and loads.

Just stay away form the swagged dead soft lead bullets. These are for 2700 Bullseye matches and need to be kept below about 700 fps or you suffer leading. They are very accurate though.

I am using 5.2 grains of Win 231 with rainier 200 grain round nose and have not had any problems. Using Win Large pistol primer and Win case and OAL 1.26. Shooting numerous 1911 with this load. :neener:
