Recycling of Political Signs?

There is a law in Illinois where they are supposed to collect them after the election. The local Ron Paul supporters seem to have forgotten that and most of their signs are still up

There's a lot of Ron Paul signs yet, out in the rural boonies where I live.
Just another sign IMO of the lack of a serious campaign. The Internet is not all there is to running a political campaign.

After election most political signs are "abandoned property" like the old armchairs, etc., left on the curb for the trash truck: free to whoever wants to take 'em away for whatever purpose.
I think its against the law in Illinois to take trash like that. They bust people in Rockford for it now and then. Not sure why anyone cares. On garbage day in my town you see ancient pickup trucks driving around looking for stuff to pickup. There is even a guy on a bicycle pulling a homemade trailer going around collecting goodies.

I am lucky to have a life time supply of frames and they work great and I also have a great supply of cardboard signs.
Funny thing happened at the range a while back, I had three targets set up at the plinking range and a guy and his teenage son came up started to get ready to shot and the kid said to his dad 'there's a good use for all those things in the garage" the guy was one of are county commisioners.

Another good recycled target is a realtor's "house for sale sign".
Especially nowadays...
Have you noticed that the quality steel signs you used to see real estate agents using are started to be replaced by a cheaper looking plastic sign?

Yep I shoot up as many of the hillary and osama ones I can find.
Or if there on the back roads I don't feel guilty if my truck happens to drift onto the grass a little and they fall over.

The funny thing is, the signs I have after election are often the signs I picked up at campaign HQ for the candidate I was supporting. Plus wind-blown signs that land on my property. Or real estate signs pulled up and tossed in the ditch by the side of the road by third parties. When I use abandoned election campaign and real estate signs I am cleaning up LITTER and RECYCLING. Gawd, I feel green and it aint even St. Patrick's Day.

I've been using the nice plastic signboards as backers for years. The only problem I run into is that the best quality signboards are usually for candidates I support, which creates a little bit of conflict for me.
The real estate signs with the nice metal frames are getting scarce lately, especially the ones with the smaller panel area at the top for the "SOLD" sign.

Yup! Made a target frame from a school board aspirant's sign and some 1X2 & 1X4 lumber and a scrap of plywood.

A couple of Bush 2000 signs augment the roof to keep the contents of an old shed dry, and about a dozen local and Arizona Democrats signs decorate and weatherproof the chicken coop.

The signs that are about 2 or 3 feet wide and 4 feet long get used to slide under the front of the cars when it is time for an oil change or minor maintenance. The signs are one heck of a lot more useful than any of the candidates have ever proved to be, whether they were elected or not!;)

The most useful part of it has been the rebar and fenceposts the signs have been wired to when put up to blight the landscape.
