I am at the point that I am having difficulty picking up the sights on my handguns. I deer hunt with a .41 magnum Bisley Blackhawk and have mounted a red dot on it, but the dot is about 1.75” above the bore. I would like to get a 10mm 1911 for deer hunting and put a red dot on it. Who is currently milling 1911 slides for red dots?

I would recommend C and H Precision . They make the best plates by far . I haven’t used them for slide milling because I mill my own . There are dozens of places milling slides for red dots . Do research on dots before you buy . A SRO ( Trijicon) is a great sight ( I have 2) but quite a bit wider than a 1911 slide . Burris Fastfire 3 ( I have 2) is closer to 1911 slide width and cheaper but not quite as bulletproof. Pros and Cons .

I have a Weigand mount on one of my 1911's.

Here is my 1911 with the Weigand mount with a Tasco Pro Point on it.

There are currently many light weight holographic reddot sight makers and as many base mounting plate designs. First pick the sight you want then search for manufacturers that make a mounting plate to fit the dovetail cut in your 1911 slide..it is NOT necessary to mill the slide unless you want the lowest possible sight mount and/or co/witness the holigraphic sight along with standard open sights. It is also possible to design your own mount to fit what ever gun you have with CAD/CAM software (FreeCad) and send it to a CNC machine shop to make it for you...My eyes will not focus on iron sights any more and I had to go to a Reddot slide mounted sight for my S&W 4506...

I started with a rig similar to what cfullgraf shows in the photo. Proved its utility, but a rear sight replacing mount for something like the FastFire or DeltaPoint is far superior. American Rifleman August 2021 issue has a great article on what red dot sights fit which mounting footprint, I believe it is available on-line now. EGW will likely have the mount for whatever red-dot you choose.
