Has anyone ever attempted or seen a red dot scope on a 7mm Rem Mag?

I was thinking about putting one on my 7mm Rem Mag since I mainly use it for deer hunting.

Would it work or would be a lost cause due to recoil?

A good quality name brand red-dot would ignore Magnum rifle recoil.

A $29 dollar one from Walmart, probably not.

Red dot or reticule doesn't matter. How it's made sure does.
I've shot Aimpoints on hard kicking revolvers that didn't know the word "quit".

If (and that's a big if) I were wanting to put a red dot on a 7 mag, I'd certainly want the best I could afford.

Walmart & Sportsmans Guide need not apply.

Seems to me like you need to trade the 7mm Magnum off for a more suitable brier patch rifle then.

Like a 30-30, .444, or 45-70 Marlin or Winchester, or a 12 GA slug gun.

A high velocity rifle in a Brier patch is a recipe for blown-up bullets and wounded game.

I was just saying!

I know caliber or velocity has nothing to do with shooting through brush.

I just thought a red-dotted 7mm Mag making pre-ground hamburger pink slime out of a 30 yard deer is a little over-kill!

There are much better weapons to chose from for a brier patch deer.

Agreed.

jwrowland,
How about putting a good crosshair scope on your 7 mag, then buyin a thuddy thuddy or such for the briars?

Yeah I think I may have to get that 30-30 I've always been wanting....darn the luck, I guess I'll have to start reloading something else. :D.

I always shoot the neck when I shoot deer. I hate messing up meat, plus I hate tracking. I hate to lose good meat. :)

best of both worlds is a low power 1.75 or 2-7 X scope with a red dot reticle. Vortex Crossfire for around $100 works great for me.
