I'd like to mount a Red Dot scope to my regular Scope.

I have a 1" Leupold Scope on my REM 541 bolt action 22LR Rifle, and I usually zero it at 100 yds. Unlike AR shooters that have Picatinny rails all over the front of their rifles, I don't have that option. So I started wondering how I could mount a Red Dot to my rifle. Seems if I welded two Scope Rings together by their base, I could attach one to my current scope and the other to a Red Dot sight. The Red Dot would be zero'd in at some nearer range--30, 40, or 50 yds. So I could switch from one target to another with no hold under to calculate. It'd be right on the mark, by just rotating the gun.

Anyone seen a scope ring company offering such a unit?

That right there is your problem.

Zero a .22 RF at 50 yards and you will be good at close range all the way out to 65-70 yards or more.

It's a simple matter to learn the proper hold-over at longer ranges.

RCMODEL---Good Comment but I've found a 100 yd zero to be much better on longer distance jack rabbits and squirrels here in Oregon. I'd rather hold under out to that range. And as you know past that distance the drop really gets bigger.

However, when my gun club holds a Steel Challenge sometimes they have a side match with 22LR rifles for Speed, and they don't put those targets out past 30 yards. So I wouldn't have to hold low, and I wouldn't have to re-zero my rifle, if I stuck a Red Dot off the side of my optical scope already zero'd for 30 or so yards

I have seen a cheap scope ring with a Weaver base attached to mount red-dots, flashlights, etc., but darned if I can remember who makes them. Maybe NcStar, or Berska, or somebody like that.

Was it me, I would just saw the clamp portion off a cheap 1" scope ring and drill & tap the resulting flat for a Weaver scope mount base.

Then about any red-dot would clamp right on it.

Edit = It was BSA:

Kinda too much for a .22 though.
I think the cut-off scope ring with a Weaver base would be the best solution.
