One word: liability. Your life is worth less to the company than the money that they would have to pay out if you were to defend yourself.

I forget what it is called now, but I learned it in the first part of my schooling - ahhha, 'risk assessment'. IIRC, this was done to perfection by the Ford Motor Company with the Pinto. They determined that the price to retrofit the gas tank with safety features was greater than paying out the damages to the survivors of any burnings associated with the gas tank defect. Makes you feel all warm inside, doesn't it?

I've applied for my CCW. If granted, I guarantee I ain't gonna depend upon no cops or a cell-camera!

It sound like you are in a may issue state? Where exactly are you? City/State?

When I lived in Los Angeles, there was a case where a woman real estate agent, on a Sunday afternoon, was sitting an expensive open house in a very nice area (Benedict Canyon, for you Angelinos). She was alone when some guy came in, dragged her into a bedroom, raped her and then murdered her.

Never hurts to be careful ... especially when you're in a vulnerable position. Real estate agents are sometimes considered "open season" by bad guys.

Risk assessment

If the Ford car company were told that they didnt fix that car with a easily available repair the management - Ford family included were going to jail for industrial manslaughter things would have happened FAST

Crofrog,
I edited specific references from the original post.

The use of code words and phrases is a common security measure. Everyone from the professionals (police and the military) to members of a family use them. There isn't anything wrong with them as long as they aren't compromised and as long as they aren't the only security provision.

This whole thread should be deleted for OPSEC reasons.

Dunno what that means, but sounds like good advice.

if "OPSEC" is what your wondering. its operational security. aka, "need to know" basis and what not. dont want the BG to find out your code words.( theres a lot of wierdos on the internet)

Thanks Jeff. I'm not a realtor or anything, but I know a few in the business. I'm sure they apperciate not having there "mostly secert" code word on a public forum.

Everyone needs to rember that these public forums do have bad guys reading them.

Thanks,
Chris

I think I'm the first one to have done so.. but I can't find anything. Can we just get the whole thread deleted so it doesn't taunt me as I try to sleep?

Pax J,
Easy enough to do, if you know where to look.

For everyone's benefit, while the concerns are nice, part of good OPSEC is to refresh your code words.

If you've been using a set of code words you found in a good article on the net for the last three months, gather your people and come up with a new variation. It doesn't have to be elaborate - subtlety works best in this situation.
