While getting up in the middle of the night to hit the piss tubes.

Green and blue also work, with the added advantage that it's easier to see blood (appears blackish).

I have found out that most of my Led lights do not hamper my night vision.

Also, if you have really light-sensitive eyes they can be helpful for not fricasseeing your eyeballs when you need just a little extra illumination. (For example, mine are so sensitive I have to have filtered, polarized lenses even under normal room lighting--like somehow my eyes have built-in "starlight scopes", although not as good as the high-tech version.)

Walking through the barracks at night to use the latrine, reading maps and sand tables when conducting night ops, and reading and filling out reports in the patrol car at night. In some cars, we've actually put one of those round push-in dome lights with adhesive on the back in inside the patrol cars, and colored them red. Much better that using the stock interior dome lights.

Coyote Hunting. I mount one on the bottom of my carbine. Yotes cannot see the red light.

In AZ where I live this is a quick and easy way to go to jail. I don't know about where you live, but using a flashlight to assist in taking game is a big no no here.

in military operations like said above reading maps etc but that is all. i used it alot last deployment, but this one i have not needed too.
