The finish on the receiver on my Winchester 1300 has worn through on one side from forearm sliding back and forth. From what I have gleaned from the various threads, no one thinks much of the Birchwood Casey blackening agent for aluminum. Is there some better way to touch it up or is this a case of needing to do a total refinish with duracoat or some such other product? Of course, that is after I have shaved off some of the forearm so it doesn't make contact with the receiver anymore.

www.brownells.com sells a couple of spray on coatings in many colors for aluminum and steel gun parts, some you spray and then bake , some you just spray and let dry. I did a Mossberg shotgun frame with ALUMA-HYDE non baking coating and it came out quite nicely. A suggestion for the spray on only coating ,is follow instructions to the letter and then do not touch for 4 or 5 days no matter what the instructions say. It is hard to maintain the 90 degrees for 2 days , so give it lots of time at as close to the 90 degrees as you can.
