Dated 1945, can't make out the company, not important to me anyway, since I'm keeping it. Just wanted to show off my handiwork.

Before: DSCN6184.jpg

After: DSCN6198.JPG

Steps:

1. Removed old, damaged grips by using a hacksaw to cut through retaining pins

2. Used a variable speed dremel tool with 50 grit sanding wheels to remove rust and minor pitting, as well as a few goof marks someone else seemed to have made with a power tool.

3. I then used wet or dry sandpaper and clp to work it down from 220 to 1500 by hand.

4. I washed with hot water and dish soap and set on a clean towel

5. Used alcohol and cotton swabs to degrease the blade all around

6. Applied Birchwood Casey cold bluing solution using a clean cotton ball, let sit about 30-60 sec

7. Rinsed in hot water

8. Buffed entire blade lightly with 1500 wet or dry

9. Repeated steps 5-8 about 7 times

10. Applied last coat of bluing solution and let sit 60 sec

11. Rinsed in cold, then hot water

12. Applied a liberal coat of clp and wiped down blade thoroughly with clean cloth

13. Wrapped handle in 550 paracord

All I have left to do is sharpen it, and I plan to leave the edge in the white as a contrast against the very dark blue achieved by the cold bluing

Also, some pictures for scale:

Have a nice day

After you use it a few times, I'm sure that you'll put a nice and wide grip back on it. Paracord wrap on a chopper is only going to hurt your hand if you plan on using it.

+1

Smooth is way better on a using machete.

If it isn't really smooth, you will wear blisters on your hand in no time flat using it.

The wrap does like nice though.
