i've just purchased a Ruger Mark III Target model pistol and was wondering what ammo is reliable and good to shoot. I dont care what price range as long as it shoots good and has rarely any FTF problems.

o you have to try different ammo to see which one works the best in that particular gun

I've actually had good luck with bulk pack Federal and Winchester ammo.

Avoid Remington like the plague.

My MKIII hunter shoots anything I put in it. Remington is the only ammo I will never buy.

I was having problems with Remington bulk packs already almost ten years ago and stopped buying them. From the responses I see they haven't improved things since then. I basically have stuck with the Winchester and Federal bulk packs since then for plinking fodder.

Federal bulk pack has been fine in our Rugers (22/45, MKII, 22/45 MkIII) although some of the mags have needed work. There is a thread here about the mods to help eliminate the stovepipes.

My Mk II will shoot anything, but CCI Mini-Mags, CCI Standard Velocity, and Aguila Standard Velocity (yellow box) are the most accurate and have the fewest misfires. I haven't tried the really expensive stuff like Eley or Wolf.

MKIII apetite

I've had my MKIII for three years now, have fired only Federal #510 40GRN LRN.Must have 2,500 rounds fired without,I say without any FTF,FTE gotta love it.I have no reason to try other ammo while this works for me.If it aint broke etc, etc.

Anything but Rem Thunderbolts works just fine in my four Rugers...Since October, I have been shooting about 500 rounds a week of Federal bulk .36 gr, Champion, or Lightning out of my MK's. I can't recall the last time I had a malfunciton.

Federal bulk, CCI Blazer.
No need for fancy (expensive) stuff like CCI standard velocity (SV) when you are getting used to a new gun.

CCI standard velocity is expensive? A few days ago, I bought a brick for about $25.00. I don't use it in my pistols, but really like the groups it gives out of my CZ's. While it ain't true target stuff, it isn't bad.

That's a good price for CCI SV but Fed bulk is about $16/550 and has the extra power to cycle a new action.

Unfortunately my CZs and 10/22 have even more expensive tastes, CCI Velocitor.

My MKIII eats LOTS of Federal 525 round bulk ammo. It gives acceptable accuracy vs price. CCI Standard Velocity is more accurate in my pistol but is costs $0.08/round vs Federal bulk for $0.03/round so I only use it sparingly when I'm shooting for groups.

I use CCI mini mags in my Mark III and it runs flawlessly.

I haven't tried anything else because I figure, why mess with perfection.

I own three Ruger .22LR auto pistols: Standard, Mark II and a Mark III. All of them were picky eaters until I did the magazine mod shown here.

Before I did the mod, the only reliable ammunition was any round nose lead bullet of ~40 grains. Post mag mod everything functions pretty much flawlessly in all three guns.

My MkIII is flawless with most anything. The only exception is that it will have problems with Remington. I tried several brands of match ammo in it (CCI match pistol, Eley, Aguila, Federal Match and Super Match) and got groups of .5 to .75 inches at 25 yards with great reliability. Not bad.

I like the 325 federal bulk. I think its auto match at wally world. Runs a decent bit better than the 500 rnd packs and is still only bout 15 dollar or so

I have bench tested AutoMatch in about 12 different rifles. While it isn't truly "match" ammo, it is better than any other bulk ammo that I have tried. Nearly every gun I have used it in shot tighter groups with less flyers. I like is to much I bought 2 cases from Cheaper than Dirt a while back when they had it at $10.68 per box of 325.

I use Federal bulk, Winchester 550, and Federal Automatch in my Ruger MK II's. Of course CCI Minimags work well too, but I don't find the need to spend that much on .22LR.

I stay away from any Remington .22 ammo.
