I now have collected the 9mm, 40 s&w and 45 acp versions of the XD pistol. The 40 and the 9mm are sub-compacts and 45 acp is a 4" weapon. The 40 is my intended weapon for winter time carry rather than my summertime 38 smith snubby. I have shot hardball through all of them and they have been flawless.

My question to all you XD owners is this. Which personal defense rounds (hollow points ect.) have you had the best success with?? Good feeding and reaching battery everytime?

I'm looking for a starting point for making my own selections for testing and would prefer to start with ammo that others know to be reliable. Please only answer if you have a XD and have fired DEFENSE ammo through it.

Thanks for your time.

P.S. I searched for other threads but didn't find them in word searches. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

I carry Winchester Silver Tip in my 9mm SC XD's. In my 357 Sig XD, I carry Speer Gold Dot ammunition. In my .45 acp XD, I carry Winchester 230 Grain JHP ammunition.

They all feed through my guns just fine and have never, ever failed to feed.

The .45 acp XD, being a service pistol, isn't designed to shoot wadcutter ammunition, so stay away from any bullet in that configuration and you'll be fine.

Hope this helps.

Fred

MrsBFD's XD9sc has fired every round we have fed it without a single malfunction.
What I can specifically recall firing:
JHP:
Gold Dots, HST, Grindells, MagTech
FMJ:
WWB, MagTech, Wolf, Brown Bear, Blazer (brass)

I'm sure we've run more than that through, I've reached the point that I don't worry about factory ammo. Perhaps someone will come along with a horror story of unreliability or poor feeding ... but the XD design seems to be OK with most standard ammunition you feed it.

i have an xd service model .40 and at one time had a sc .40, there wasn't a defensive round that i tried that wasn't reliable and accurate out of my xd.and i have tried almost everyine that can be purchased however i carry corbon dpx 140gr in my xd service model. many many jhp's reloads, factory 15,500+ rds and it still going strong it dosen't matter what i shoot in it it is 100%

For my XD45 I have tested and currently use 230 grain Federal Hydra Shoks. I actually find them to be quite accurate for my use.

I use the same in both MY XD(m) and XD sub . both in .40 180 Gr. HST .

Ive shot just about everything you find on the shelves through both of them .. never once an issue with Failure to Feed/Fire or Extract .

I like the Hornady TAP also, but a local shop gives me an agency discount on the HST .

Posting this from Iphone , apologies in advance for hamfisted typing/grammer

My XD45 has eaten:
-Double Tap 230 gr Gold Dots
-Hornady "Custom" 230 and 200 gr XTPs
-Hornady TAP 230 grain
-Federal "Personal Defense" 185 grain

I would expect it to eat any rounded hollowpoint, and probably any pointy one (i.e. Hydrashocks) too.

I have the xdm9 and it seems to eat whatever I feed it. Never any issues. I've tried winchester bonded pdx1, golden saber, federal hydra shok, and every range ammo all the way down to cheap aluminum blazer. Among defensive rounds I have not noticed any difference in accuracy. Great guns.

Thanks for the replies. I think you've given me a good point of reference to start my own selection and testing process.

My 9mm and my .45 ACP in XD seem to like the jacketed hollow points from Remington. I've shot them extensively from the range and I haven't had a jam yet. My wife however was at the range with me this last weekend and she had one shot from the 9mm stove pipe on her, but from what we could tell it was because she didn't have a firm grip on the gun. After we worked on her grip we didn't have anymore problems.

I have an XD 45 Tactical. The following have been used in my gun with no problems. But then again I've never seen an XD that was picky about ammo.

Corbon DPX and Powrball
Speer Gold Dot
Win Ranger T +P
Rem Golden Saber

I think the best round is one that you're pretty confident to do the stopping power you want. I gave up a long time ago buying SD ammo, it's too expensive, and started my "roll-your-own". My last batch was Hornady xhp, 185 gn. It's cheaper and I can practice with them. :D

Forgot to mention, all my handguns are XD's
