I am reloading for a .40S&W sigma S&W.I purchased once fired brass from brassmanbrass.com ,after resizing I started measuring case length. They ranged from .835 to .845. The manual says .850 is max and trim to .845. .840 is min. A bunch of them measured .838,would you still use them??? this cartridge headspaces from the case mouth.

Yes, I would use them.

.002" - .005" under .840" Min is not going to make a bit of difference if your gun has enough firing pin protrusion to fire them.

Which it probably does.

If there is any doubt, segregate a bunch of the shortest ones, load them, and see if they all go off.
I bet they do.

The thing is, they worked the first time, or they wouldn't be once-fired brass now would they?

Go ahead and use them as I have done it with similar 40S&W as well as 45 ACP brass just make sure you're getting a good crimp so the bullets don't get set back into the case as they are chambered as the 40 is already a high pressure round and you dont need to blow your gun up .

Load a few dummy rounds "No powder or primer" and set the crimp die up after crimping measure Overall length then put it in a magazine and chamer it starting with the slide locked back and let it fly forward by hitting the slide release then remeasure the round to make sure the bullet stayed put at your OAL .

Get the Lee "Factory Crimp Die" if you don't already have one, will save you lots of grief.

Was at the range today and the guy next to me locked up his XD40 real good with one of his over sized reloads, too big to go into battery but just small enough to wedge in real good!

i would use them, i have been reloading .40 for a while, and if i was given them or bought them then i would use em.
