I want to make some dummy .45 Colt bullets with my Lee reloading press. The .45 Colt bullets I see online at MidwayUSA.com say .451 diameter. A dummy .45 Colt bullet I already have measures at 0.444 diameter. I can't find 0.444 diameter bullets on Midway. Any ideas of who might have that size? I want to make sure the dummies look as well as fit right. I'm looking for copper-jacket RNFP. Much obliged.

45 Colt bullets/barrel manufacturers have standardized at 0.452 over the last 50 years.

WHERE did that "444" bullet come from?
(By any chance did you mean 454? That
was the general diameter before WW-II)

Standard is .452. Some guns have large chamber throats and will work better with .454. Buy a set of dial calipers and see what you have. Or see if one or the other is a snug push through the throats. Don't worry about the barrel, match to the cylinder.

Your .45 Colt bullet is either .452", or .454".

You simply can't measure the part of the bullet that sticks out of the case and find out the true bullet diameter hidden inside the case.

dummy rounds? why would you think that .003 would matter for dummy rounds? your not going to get a copper covered bullet in .444, the closest your going to get is .452 and to boot a rnfp in copper is gonna be hard to get too. what is the reason for the dummy round?

I get the impression that the OP is literally just starting to play in this game.
That said, I strongly recommend he get Lyman 49th & Sierra 5th manuals.....

and start reading.

Trader Doc,

Please amend your question to include something about your level of expertise in firearms (to help us better form our answers).

Do you have a press? Do you reload already? How will these dummy reloads be used? Stuff like that.
