I am getting ready to build my reloading bench, and I am starting from scratch and building it myself. I was hoping people could post pictures of their reloading benches to give me design ideas. Things I will be looking for are configurations, storage, height, depth, materials....

Thanks

Already been done in the "Handloading and Reloading" forum

This is a pretty good sized thread of exactly what you're looking for.

I just did this, starting about 2 weeks ago. I got my plans from here: http://www.dennymac.com/bench/ The only changes I made were cutting the legs at 36" instead of 42" (I'm only 5'2") and omitting the cabinet doors. It's 6' long. My local lumber yard cut all of the pieces to size for me. I used a circular saw to make the notches mentioned in 2 of the legs and in 2 corners of the lower shelf. Assembling it was easy. It was the finish work that took forever: sanding, staining, and putting coats of polyurethane on. I am incredibly happy with the results.

I made a bench just like the previous with an old solid core door. I have to think of the shelving like that, I have not made any yet.

My bench is a mess right now, I am doing a run of 308s, but I think you well get the idea. I wanted to be able to move the presses easily without putting mounting holes through the bench top, that way I can use the bench for whatever need I would have in the future. Here are some pics, I could not stand back far enough to get it in one pic. I'll have to make another post for the others

learn2shoot I built an L-shaped bench to fit a room I built in my garage. The bench uses 4X4 's for the corners (six total) that are rabbited at the top and bottom for the 2X4 cross members. Then for the top I laminated 2X4's for a butcher block counter top. I install rails underneath for adjustable shelving. All the wood was glued and lagged together with the lag bolts counter sunk and filled. I sanded and finished with four coats of polyurethane. I guarantee that no movement or flex what so ever. I made my bench top just 18" deep so it would hold my tumbler because we reload out on the edge any way and any more then that will just collects dust and spilled powder.

Now let's see donttellthewife, a coke can to hold the press handle in upright position. And I haven't seen so many flat rate postal boxes since Dry Creek Bullet days........Creeker

LAH - looks like you are collecting tumblers as well.

RCBS JR2/3 has not met a coke can that it could not crush. The full ones are a little tougher, just stand on a chair and jump on the handle...might take two jumps on it though! LOL!

agd1953, he's refering to loading over the carpet. I've heard it's, um..... interesting when you "find" that lost primer with the beater bar on the vaccuum! I'm sure he wasn't knocking your setup!

I'll get one of those plastic things that go under office chairs just to make him happy. Done a lot of things on that carpet and can't get ride of it for sentimantal reasons. darn carpet burns!!!

i have a question. if i buy the lee progressive 1000 for 130.00 on midway for the 9mm, how easy is it to switch to the .40sw?

is all i need to buy is the die?

yongxingfreetsy-

yea i would get dies and a new tool head. the shell plate is the same. i load 40 and 9 mm on the same pro 1000. sometimes you have to adjust the indexing slightly. . .but to switch calibers literally takes less than a minute if you have another tool head set up.

if you can swing the extra 20 bucks, i'd get another disk powder thrower as well. i'm slowly trying to get one for all the pistol calibers i reload. i like the spring ones better than the upgrade, which is good for me, as it saves me 10 bucks.

if you have questions, post or pm me.

adg1953...The last time my wife picked up a primer with the hoover I was informed that she had enough life insurance on me to illiminate me (she didn't say how) if she picked up one more primer. Guess she doesn't like bouncing off the ceiling when they go off inside the hoover...Guess that would be a bit scary.

Knockin' your loading bench set up? He++ no...In fact I'm a bit jealous. You have one of those lighted magnifying glasses...;)
