Is there any gun shows, shops, or places that you can go to and learn how to reload. I haven't done it yet but it's costing me a ton to keep shooting my 500 S&W. I would like to eventually reload those along with the .357 sig and .44 mag. I would like to learn from a place that has everything you would need to buy as well so I could buy everything I need if it looks to be a good deal. Thanks.

Everything I learned about reloading I taught myself. My technique at age 16 loading 7X57 Mauser cartridges on the kitchen table with a Lee Loader left something to be desired but I never killed or injured myself or my gun. It's not that hard if you're willing to read.

I'm in central OH. Send me an e-mail if you would like some one on one coaching. I've never heard of a gun shop or other establishment that taught reloading.

new albany shooting range in ....wait for it.... new albany, ohio occasionally offers reloading classes. they usually last a saturday. i took it years ago and found that particular instructor unhelpful, but YMMV. on the whole, it's an excellent range and they have several good instructors. it's clean, you can buy all the dillon stuff you need there, and they have a whole building for class rooms.

Cool....thanks guys...I'll keep in touch...I bought a glock at New Albany Shooting range.

I am self taught as well. I think you can get pretty far with a manual and practice, along with some help from the guys on this forum. It would have been very nice if I had some sort of personal instruction, I do not know of anyplace in Ohio that does so unfortunately.

If you get really hard pressed, I can show you the basics. I currently only reload pistol ammo on a single stage press in a cramped area, but I could probably get you started.

Just like Home Depot gives Saturday morning sessions on how to lay tile or build a deck, it would be great if gun shops (or even the big sporting chains, like Bass Pro Shops) gave sessions on reloading. It would sell a lot of equipment and supplies.

Thanks guys for all the help. I may take a few of you up for suggestions at some point.

The best thing you can do right now is to buy a reloading manual. You can never have too many. Lyman is one of the better ones for explaining the basics. The ABC's of reloading is another. Go to a local gun store and/or bookseller and thumb through a few. A cheap investment. If you can find someone in your area who handloads, they will probably be willing to show you the ropes.

+1 on the reloading manuals, they are a great way to get started. Just read as much as you can on the subject, and if you know anybody that already reloads, pump them for information.

Reloading is actually pretty simple as long as you pay attention to details.

I'm also going to go against common wisdom here and say that you DO NOT need to get started on a single stage press, progressives are just as easy to get started with as long as you PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS.

Target World in Cincinnati runs them

I shoot there once a week and buy the occasional components there. they hold reloading demonstrations every now and then. If you are near Cincinnati and would like advice on buying a rig, or seeing how a progressive works, they could help you out. They carry Dillon and Hornaday's in stock. I went with an RCBS Pro2000 and really like it. Call them up and they can problably tell you when the next demo is.

lee precision
