I've heard there are accuracy issues with some of these Rossi 243s, so trying to peak accuracy with hand loads. I dropped a 95 gr bullet into it (1.112 inch bullet length) so it would contact the rifling, then dropped a brass case (trimmed to 2.035 inch) and closed the action to see how far it would seat. It only went .2 inch into the case. If I were to seat these bullets to the cannelure there would be one heck of a jump to engage the rifling. Must be the accuracy issue... Wondering how to load for this rifle?

It was over 10 years ago that I shot it with Winchester power points 100gr ( I think) and it wasn't great. If memory serves, there was a 4 or 5 inch group at 100 yards. This is my daughter's gun, and she wants to use it for deer so I'm trying to tweak a better load, and ran into the bullet jump issue.

I looked up the barrels twist rate. Looks like its 1 turn in 10" This twist rate may not be as accurate with long bullets.

Shorter flat base bullet or

Try a Sierra 85 gr hpbt #1530 with IMR 4350 or H4350 . Set base of bullet at neck shoulder junction.
Dont worry about jump.

Thanks! I'm going to try these I have with 4350 at saami max length and see how they do. If I can get at least a 3" group at 100 yds, it'll do for now.

Had a second hand savage 110 with a 1:10 twist rate, had a somewhat eroded throat that I used 100 gr flat and bt bullets in with a 2.7" oal that shot very well with imr 4350 and several other powders, both I and h 4895 as well ad w 760. Usedlarge rifle mag primers with 760.

Some solid copper bullets work best with a long jump, or go heavier 100 hornandy btsp, 103 eld.
That's the route I took in loading for a friend's Rossi .243 single shot. It's for his daughter and shots will be limited to probably 75 yards or less. We got 100 yard groups of 2" to 3", which I thought we could probably improve with some more tinkering but he decided to call it good.

Load was 42.2 grains of IMR4350 with Barnes TTSX 80-grain bullets. COL varied from 2.605" to 2.610" and CBTO measured with a Hornady bullet comparator was 2.146". That seating depth puts them 0.100" off the lands of my XPR. I don't know how far off the Rossi lands they are.

So I don't use monos but if any brainpower is used in their development they should be wonderfully jump tolerant based on loading guides recommending a minimum of .050 jump.
