reloading for the .30 M1 Carbine

I just picked up a M1 carbine and I'm wanting some info on reloading for it. What powders are suitable for this caliber? I'm assuming I use small rifle primers.

From what I read about the .30 carbine it is a "gloryfed pistol round" I would use the same steps as I would with a auto pistol round.

Would Bullseye be suitable for this round? That is all I have right now.

I'm using 4895 with a 110g fmj, it does have a straight walled case, is easy to reload. I down load my milsurps, just don't want to bang them up. Long as it cycles its fine with me for paper shooting. The M1 carbine has a gas tube system that runs under the barrel, strikes a small piston that hits the bolt, I'm not sure that it would take well to a fast hot powder. And it is small rifle primers. Its a fun shooter.

I'm using 110 fmj,14gr.of IMR 4227 Rem. case WSR 1665 fps.
110 fmj,14 gr. W296 Rem case WSR 1725 fps,
Win. white box 110 fmj 1910 fps.
All from 4-44 Inland.

My old load for 30 Carbine was 12 gr of 2400 behind a 110 gr bullet, functioned perfectly.

As for being a glorified pistol round, that pretty much covers it. The 30 Carbine was meant to replace the 1911, not a rifle, if you consider it a handgun you will be in the right mindset. Think of it as an easy to shoot pistol, it is easier to handle than a 1911 for most people, and an effective weapon when used in its intended manner.
 
As a GENERAL rule-
If it works well in a magnum handgun round-it should do well in 30 carbine loads as well.

IIRC H110 was designed for the 30 carbine then adapted to magnum pistol applications.

As always-have AT LEAST 2 manuals for load data reference.
 
Well guys I need to find a place to shoot a rifle and get some brass.

My standard .30 Carbine load is Win296/15.0 grs., CCI SR primer, and a 110 gr. SP bullet.

brass and bullets

I got a load of pull down brass and bullets from Steve at Hi-Techammo.com

They were GI 54 headstamps, unfired. I also bought bullets from them and they were like new.

I ended up on carbine shooting binges, so I bought 115 grain lead round nose bullets, sized them to .308, and used H4227 powder and federal primers. It was awful cheap shooting, and I progressived it with my hornady press.

Anyway, the carbines a fun plinker. oughta be one in every home in America.
 
I tried my hand at loading some 120 gr LRN using Unique. I got past the maximum load before I could get it to cycle.

Does anybody think my gas port may be impeded?

I just shot up a bunch of store bought W-W 110 gr FMJ this morning and it cycled fine.
 
I feel it better to resurrect than start new. anyway...

Just go my aniversary kit, and I'm reading up before starting. I have some questions here though. Lyman's book has loads from 110 to 130 gr, and the sheet that came with the dies gives loads from 85 grains, and the kit included a book from Hodgdon doesn't have anything. Anyway, I'm looking for someone with experience with the heavier and lighter loads(85 and 130 gr.). I'm obviously starting out with the 110 gr, but experimenting with the others sounds appealing.
 
H110, 110gr RN, CCI small rifle primers.

H110 is a ball powder, meters great, original powder was WC820. H110 is supposed to be the civilian equiv.

I read some people are using IMR4895... what referance did you get that from? IMR does not list 4895 for .30 Carbine.
