The fellow with the cylinder will not use it but wants to stamp it "Do Not Use" so as nobody accidentally uses it. I've asked for pics of the chambers and nipples.

Why stamp it like that? Whats wrong with it other than one nipple wont come out? Is that a reason not to use it until it needs new nipples?

I'm not trying to be dense or contrary, I really dont understand why it couldnt be used just because a nipple wont come out.

I was under the impression that it was rusted.

He said he likes to keep the cylinder in it while it's in his safe, but wants to ensure no one would use it. I take it that it would be naked without that cylinder. Understandable I suppose.

I'm guessing it is damaged as he has it set aside, but I have not had anything definitive mentioned.

Your questioning the situation isn't taken as contrary. I'd like to understand fully myself as I've spoken about this as though it was well rusted, though it was only the impression I got, which may have been an assumption. But for him to consider tossing it and instead considering stamping it tells me it must not be in reasonable condition. That's one are I'd have real concerns!

I'm still getting my outfit together for Grand Army of the Frontier shooting. While the primary competition weapon is a single shot cartridge rifle post 1865, a competitor also needs one or two "period" side arms or replicas thereof. I plan to use a couple of cb New Model Armys with additional charged, but uncapped (for safety) cylinders that I cap as needed. These are carried in the Triple K cylinder pouches from Cabelas. I actually always have one additional empty pouch to have someplace to put the first spent cylinder.

I use either Gorilla Grease or CVA ANTI-SEIZE STICK, designed for high temp with: Breech Plugs, Choke Tubes or Nipples.
I use the same grease that I use when doing auto brakes.......has always worked and is high temp.,on hand n cheap

I got the leather pouches from The Possibles Shop the same time I ordered the Slix Shot nipples.
Need a couple more sets of the nipples and two more pouches.
I removed the OEM nipples and lightly greased the threads, and a few were tough to get loose at first.
