I've been looking around and I can't seem to find where to buy tracer bullets for reloading. Anyone have a source? I'm looking for .40 S&W tracer bullets. Just the bullet not the whole cartridge.

you can buy tracer cord, I picked up some at the last gun show. You drill out the back of your bullet 3/16" deep and then epoxy a 1/4" piece of the cord into the hole. 6 feet cost $10. and they claim you can make 200 pistol tracers......I don't know who is the maker.

You think you could find out who makes it? I'm considering just buying the cord and making them myself since I got quoted on just the tracer bullet for .60 per round when I could make the whole cartridge for almost 1/3 of that.

I took an old marine flare apart and removed the powder from it. I drilled the backs of some 230 gr 45 cal hardball. I mixed the powder with water and put the paste in the hole. Let it dry a week then loaded the bullets according to the lighter weight. went out and fired them that day and they traced. I am unsure about the stability of propellant and the stuff from the flares in the long term. Someone else may have some input as to the safety of this. If you try this please be warned it could be dangerous or hurt you.

Proberly not so much as a safety issue, using distress flare powder to plug up a bullet, as it has stuff in it to slow the burnrate and make bright colors, stuff like powdered aluminium, powdered iron, phosphes etc.
So a good cleaning afterwards might be in order.

Where do you get to shoot them? The last time I saw them was when a guy lit the brush on the berms on fire at the county range and we ended up with a pile of fire trucks all over the place. Needless to say he was no longer welcome at that range.
