Are any of you using Berry's Hybrid Hollow Point bullets for ccw? Not looking for a debate about pros and cons of reloads for ccw.

I would use a bullet that is used in LE ammo. Also check the FBI ammo test results and see what bullet they like. You want a bullet that will have good terminal performance.

Not debating reloads for CCW - understood.
Your CCW ammo will be tested by you for function in your CCW firearm.

If you ever need to use it would you not want the most proven and effective bullet regardless of cost? so, what post #2 and #3 said!
As opposed to a forum "....yeah I use it in CCW...." what would "use" mean in that context?

Focus more on shot placement and firing under stressful conditions, rather than bullet type.

How often is there a story on the news about police shooting and wounding a suspect? Often enough to prove no bullet is magic.

I've been experimenting with their .380 100 gr HHP. Seems to be as accurate as Speer's 90 gr Gold Dots and the Hornady 90 gr FTX.

I use the G2RIP ammo, it is a Very Destructive Bullet, look them up on line, they can direct you to a near by dealer. Yes they are expensive, so don’t use them for practice, good luck

Hi Alan, which cartridge are you looking to load them for? In 9mm, I tried a few different powders to get to the recommended velocity. If you haven't already purchased any, as @Otto said, RMRs Nukes would be price worthy to look at.
In 45 Auto, I tried the 200 gr. I don't remember the powder. I tried to capture a bullet in 1 gallon water jugs, but it blew out the side of the 3rd one. It ripped up the jugs pretty good.

I'd probably lean more toward a quality jacketed bullet myself. If we're talking 9mm or 45 ACP, I'd probably pick a Montanna, RMR, or Zero JHP over a Berry plated myself.

I wouldn't use a Berry's plated bullet for a self defense round. I shoot a lot of them because they're cheap, but I wouldn't trust one to expand like a dedicated self defense round. I carry Sig V-crown in 9mm in my EDC.

I have several hundred loaded of the HHP's in both 9mm and 45acp. I also have several hundred Gold Dot, HST, and a couple of other JHP's along with a dozen or more cast HP's.

I personally do not CC unless we are on a trip and usually I have the 9 handy and it is loaded with which ever one I loaded the mags up with.

To the Berry's I know they are loaded in one of the boutique company loads but do not recall which one. I have seen them shot into ballistic gel and they seemed to do OK, but I have seen a number of others also do OK.

I'll never use Berry's defense bullets again. The plating is ultra thin, and the lead very soft. I had the only rounds I've ever seen "keyhole" using these. These would honestly be my last choice....everything else I've ever used, I've liked.
Berrys customer service did respond quickly and offer me to exchange them, but shipping was to be on my dime, i said thanks, but never did ship them back. Not worth my time. .....I just kept them and used them for blammo.

I shot some into water jugs. Some of them did not retain their weight and the petals broke off. Not saying that water is a suitable gauge for how they will do in human tissue. But if they couldn't stay together in that medium, it doesn't look good.

I was able to score some HST in 9mm, 45 ACP to load up. It's been my bullet of choice.

These are some of the things I also told Berry's customers service in my complaint against these. They tried telling me I pushed them too fast, and I chronod' them at the low end of their recommend velocity.

I think you should test to your satisfaction. I carry federal hst when I'm purposefully carrying but life doesn't work that way. There is a greater chance someone will get one of my lead handloads I shoot every weekend, at least I'm good for some hits.

I'll start by saying I have zero experience with the Berry HPs. I'll move on to where I do have direct experience with the 124 XTP vs wildlife and was satisfied. Then I'll move on to where this bullet and load is trusted by many LE agencies due to a strong track record in testing and real world. I'll finish by stating that the 124 XTP is relatively inexpensive, well supported with data, and defensive loads easily replicated with less expensive bullets for realistic practice. I'd humbly suggest you follow my thought process in choosing a life or death bullet.

I would use a pulled 124gr or 147gr HST from American Reloading over any other JHP, but I will take the Lehigh Xtreme Defender over even the HST. My carry ammo is a 68gr Lehigh XD that I have pushed to over 2,000 FPS and 600+ ft-lbs out of my 9mm CZ carry pistol.

I didn’t even consider a plated hollow point for CCW. There are lots of JHPs that are designed for stopping power. I just got a heavy box of RMR 124 nukes to play with but I like to carry heavier 9s. I’ll load them for emergency use only for my BUG.
