I would like to replace the bead on my 1100 with a HiViz sight. I have a plain barrel and would like to see if there is anything I need to know before I grab it with a pair of pliers and try to screw it off. I have heard that they are not all threaded. If not what would you suggest?

If you find that yours is not threaded, you can probably tap the hole with a 6-48 tap from Brownells and then dress the end of the new sight screw in the barrel with a hone.

Clemson

So if it is not threaded and I start to unscrew it and it breaks off what would you use to secure the HiViz sight on the barrel? JB weld or something simular?

"...something simular(sic)..." Use silver solder if the sight base is metal. You'll have to remove the bluing where the sight will go first. A bit of sand paper will do that. Mind you, if you look down the barrel from the muzzle you should be able to see whether it's screwed in.

Thanks, I'll give it a look tonight before I start. I believe the sight block is metal but not sure.

Again Thanks for the info

I have seen some of the old 1100's with a pin through the sight block holding the sight in. The later models were swagged in. When trying to remove by screwing out, the sight only turns since it is not threaded. If you succeed in pulling the sight out.You will find the hole in the block is larger than 6X48 so it will have to plugged then drilled and tapped to the screw size on you Hi Viz sight.
