I just bought a new 1100 Competition Master which has a 22" barrel and mag tube extension. I'm wondering how I might be able to adapt this shotgun for different set-ups...

Is it possible to find 18" 1100 barrels to put on it? Or find a longer 1100 barrel and cut it back to 18"?

Can the mag extension be removed for a better match to an 18" barrel?

Can a youth stock be attached to the receiver for use as a shorter CQB shotty?

Other cool options for it?

Thanks in advance.

The other barrels still fit. I know a guy that hunts snow geese with his, 28" barrel and a full tube of Hevi-Shot. The stocks are the same too.

I really don't think an 18" barrel will make a bit of difference over the 22" one you have now.

They make big tubular speedloaders, that hold 8 rounds. 3 gun guys use them, and they look really fun.

HSmith... I just like the 18" barrel for around the house... makes the gun a bit more nimble and wieldy... that's all.

So I presume there are a range of after-market barrels and mag tubes for the 1100's? Can anyone suggest some good sources?

I have Remington factory barrels and Choate mag tubes on my guns, no complaints at all. I bought my last barrel and mag extension from classifieds here and over on TFL, I really don't know where the best prices are.

I missed your question on cutting back a longer barrel from the original post. Yes, you can cut them shorter. Downsides are you no longer have any choke at all and you might have cycling problems and need to adjust the gas port size. A factory barrel solves this as you can get them with Remchokes, and the port size engineering is already done for you.

I actually prefer the 22" barrel over the 18", but individual taste is just that.

There is a ton of aftermarket stuff for your 1100. Don't try to digest it all in one night, it will definately make your head spin. Just do a Google search on Remington 1100 parts and watch your wallet scream. You shouldn't have to cut a barrell for the 1100, there are plenty of 18" bbl's out there. You can get them with bead, rifle, and ghost ring sights. You can also get bbl specific mag extensions also. Takes all of the guess work out of it.

HSMITH.... are the stocks for 1100's interechangeable between 20 ga. and 12 ga. models? How about between "Youth 20 ga." models and 12 ga. models?

I'd really like to get a youth stock to fit the 1100 12 ga. or I'll have to have one done up as a custom job...($$$)

Stocks are interchangable in the same guage, but the 20 won't swap with a 12.

I have a short wood stock for a 12, it is about 1.5" shorter than standard. It has some chipping on the wrist, but some epoxy filler and a coat of paint would fix it right up. I have been planning on fixing it up for about 10 years now. I was going to fill the chips, sand smooth, lay some sand in the paint for grip texture, and then top coat with some more paint. Truth is I probably won't ever get around to it. If you want to experiment with it PM me an address and I will send it to you.

I have an 1100 with a lightweight, non-ribbed bbl cut to 18" (originally 28"). No problems so far.
