Hello folks, I hope that asking for your opinions on my first post will be ok.

I sold a few unused safe queens and paid some bills. I have a few $ left over for a 12G

Ii am of the opinion that I would-prefer- to purchase a used Rem 1100
( there is one for sale local) and it comes equipped with a extension tube
Wood stocks and looks to be in good shape-I would be able to purchase add ons ( synth stock and day glow front site) as I go along

Weapon would be only for H/Farm Defense

Should I commit to a Rem 1100 used and a spare parts ( rings) kit-and add parts above

Or

Commit out right to the 930 right out of the box?

I have been reading the forums and the 1100 has a history that seems to be all good-but, the 930 SPX is getting rave reviews

Which would you prefer and if I may ask, why? I am new to semi auto SG
and value the opinions of those that know better

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

My vote is for the 1100. Tried and true. 2 3/4" is all you need. Tons of parts are available should you ever need any. Half dozen Orings will cost you a dollar at the hardware store.

The 930 is just the latest in a series of mediocre autoloading shotguns. It is no more or less anything than the 1100, but it's new. When I picked one up the first time, the forend flexed up and down at the rear about 1/2"... that was it. If they can't get this one simple thing right, what else did they screw up? Just my opinion. I own 2 Mossberg 500's now, but my Remington 1100 is the only autoloader I'll ever need.

Thanks both, I guess that I will have to research a bit more

I have the SPX and am very happy with it. Fires everything I put through it. It's light, has ghost ring sights installed, and the only problem I had with it was the forearm retainer chipped a piece off while firing it. Didn't change function, and Mossberg replaced it no charge. No problems since. I have known guys with very unreliable 1100's.
