I have Remington 597 .22LR and am having difficulty with it FTE. I cannot figure out if the extractor is hanging onto the empty case or is the bolt returning too quickly throwing the timing off. Spent shells eject at about 1-1:30 and the last round at about 3:00. I am in the process of trying different round to see if something works. Currently I have been shooting Federal CPHP's 36gr, Federal HP 40gr, and Win. X-pert HP 36 Gr. All have had the same issue.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

I might look into a Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor. They're fairly inexpensive ($12 or so), and some guys swear by them. I haven't had a problem with my 597, but if I ever go upgrading anything on it, the Volquartsen hammer and extractor are on the list.

The Volquartsen hammer sure lightens up that gawd awful heavy trigger pull. :D I have a magnum version and that's all I've done to it. Very accurate and 100 percent. I've seen that extractor and wondered why it was offered, if there was a flaw to fix. I guess if I ever have extraction/ejection problems I'll order one. I reckon that's why Volquartsen offeres it, must be a problem there to fix.
