Just took my new .22 LR Remington 597 HB to the range to test out. Had a few questions after shooting it. First, I mounted a Bushnell 3-9x32 Sportsman rimfire scope on it with rings supplied. It is made so parallax is spot on at 50 feet. Ran the target down to 50', and in zeroing the scope in could get the groups to shoot 1" low and 1" to the right of aim. I then ran out of windage and elevation adjustment on the scope. How do I move the groups that last inch up and to the left? Shim the rings with electrical tape comes to mind.

Had some FTF problems, but looks like I have the Mk II and not the updated Mk III magazine. Will get a newer one.

Other than that, the thing can make one big hole at 50' if I do my part. Real nice gun!

OK... as for the FTF problem... Fail to Feed or Fail to Fire?

Remington is aware of magazine issues with earlier versons. Give them a call and they will likely NQA send you two nice shiney new ones on there dime...

The scope issue I've not encountered... I use the Center point 4-16x40 on mine... it's dead on at 50 yards... with the Remington Bulkpack 550 Golden HP's and the Federal 550 coppered HP's...

You will also need to remove the barreled action from the stock and loosen the guide rod screws, and reseat them so that they just make contact with the guide rods... you only need to make it so the rods won't move... Do not tighten any further than what would be finger tight.

I use a light film of machine gun grease on the bottom of the bolt and the guide rods and mine runs smooth as silk...

Hope this helps... if you have any other questions, feel free to inquire....

I had failure to feeds. I took a look at Rimfirecentral and saw pic's of the old and new magazines, and my 597 shipped with the old style. I will give Remington a call tomorrow to get updated magazines.

The scope thing is curious. I never heard of someone running out of elevation or windage adjustments, and this scope is made for rimfires - not 200 yd shots.

Thanks!

turn the rings 180degrees, just one at a time, then retry, if still no worky, turn the other ring, if still no worky, move the mounts front to back, and back to front, then retry.

also take the action apart, take the rails out the back, and put them back in just finger tight, and just enough to close them back up in the action.
the rails usually come too tight from the factory, and bind up a bit.
so this might solve your problem as well.

Thanks for the replies. I will try reversing the rings one at a time. I did call Remington to get a new magazine, and one will be going out today. Just for grins, I asked when the rifle was made an they said 2003! I bought it NIB from a dealer - must have been sitting on the shelf for quite a while. Maybe explains the $260 purch. price.
