Just traded for a new toy. It is all trued 700 action with shilen HB in 7mm rem mag. Question I have is this action has the two rear screws on the side of receiver for the M40/m24 rear telescopic sight. Does anyone know what action this may have been originally. Also I stripped gun to do a duracoat job on it and on opposite side of remington logo from serial number had another set of numbers it looks like was hand etched in there. Dont know what that is? Any help would be appreciated.

Take some pictures so people can see...you also might want to call Remington in the morning to see what they can tell you about the rifle.

I am not sure what you mean by what action it was originally, if it is factory stamped Model 700, it was always a model 700. The earlier 700s had the two tapped holes on left hand side for a receiver sight.

I'm just throwing out a guess here, but maybe the etched numbers would be the serial of a scope mated to it at one point? Good luck!
