Hey all,

At the risk of sounding like a ninja, I have a Remington 700 "tactical". Basically, its a short action Rem 700 with the word "tactical" on the barrel. I suppose the short 20" barrel and rubber hogue stock make it tactical  But anyway.

The thing is, Im not a sniper, marksman or anything like that. I just like shooting. However, I am looking for a stock that is somewhat more military style. Anything like an M40-A1 stock, or something with a thumbhole or pistol grip.

The rubber Hogue stock that came with the rifle is neat. It provides great grip and looks sharp. However, the barrel is no longer free floating when pressure is applied to the front (shooting on a rest or with a bipod). so I need to fix that.

I am not looking to spend $700 on a Macmillian stock or something like that. Hell, I have a Barska POS scope on it for now. As I dont intend on buying a Leupold Mk4 anytime soon. I know my stuff, but I like having money in the bank hahaha.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for putting up with my long winded post!

USSR, I know that it takes money to upgrade my rifle. I'm not asking for some magical cheap stock that will solve all my problems. I just dont think I need a professionally crafted stock for what I intend to use my rifle for.

200-300 dollars is reasonable. Im not entirely sure what an aluminum bedded stock is deer hunter.

Im just looking for something that will provide me with adaquate stability and maintain my free floating barrel.

Buy nice or buy twice...

I'd recommend picking up something good that will fit you and will give a rigid and rugged platform for your rifle.

You could pick up a Reminton 700P stock for a couple hundred if you want something that's not too expensive. I have the 700P currently, and actually plan to upgrade the stock eventually. It just doesn't really fit me that great.

Good luck with your project.

Shawn
