Rem. 700 LTR

Found a 700 LTR .308 locally that I really dig. What do you guys have to say about this rifle? The avaiblity(sp) of surplus .308 is helpful, but I realize it might not be the diet this gun deserves, but it would be for punching holes in paper at the range and putting some food on the table.

Would I be well served with a fixed power scope with the LTR, considering that I wish to keep shots less than 250 yards? I would save up for the best glass I could afford, so who would you guys suggest for scopes. I want something durable and yet sharp and bright.

My wife absolutely loves her .308 LTR and is deadly accurate with it out past 700 yards (the longest distance, thus far, that she's been able to play around at). We recently attended/assisted with a LEO precision shooting course and the top two shooters in the class were wielding LTRs. The instructor, who is well versed in a wide variety of platforms, is now in the market for one as well. So, a number of professionals around here would support you in this choice
