Hey guys I have a few questions to those of you who may have an ar style high tube setup on your shotguns. I heard that since the high tube is straight back in line with the barrel that it reduces recoil and muzzle jump, is this true? Also I have a really bad wrist on my trigger hand that gets aggrevated with the grip angle on the stock setup. The pistol grip setup seems to me like it would allow my wrist to stay straighter and not bent at a angle, this along with less muzzle jump might ease my wrist pain. Does anybody out there with one of these setups care to weigh in on the grip angles and felt wrist recoil? Thanks for any info.

I'm going to copy and paste this from my reply to another thread:

-I have a pistol grip with full buttstock on my 870 HD gun.

I just find the pistol grip more comfortable than a traditional stock which tends to hurt my wrists after any amount of time shooting and/or carrying around a heavy and heavy recoiling gun. The PG makes it easier and more comfortable to shoot, which in turn allows me to shoot it more and better. -

The angle on a traditional stock just kills my wrist. So yeah...I think I have the same issues that you do and the PG makes it much, much easier on my shooting wrist.

I have a telescoping buttstock on my 870 that I love. I do not think it will reduce any muzzle jump as it is significantly below the bore line. If you could find one that is in line with the bore you could get some reduction in muzzle jump, but you would need some AR like sights for it.

Thanks guys, that is exactly the info I was looking for. Now I just got to find a cheap high tube setup. Mesa is awfully proud of theirs.

I have a mesa adapter on mine with a CTR stock and I must say that the recoil is brutal to say the least. While I like the handling of the gun I am thinking of putting an endline recoil reducer on it.

I put a knox stock on mine 2 years ago, it has the two springs it and it reduces the recoil to almost nothing

Mine is an ATI 5-position stock, mounted on my Mossberg 500. No problems with recoil on my wrist, but it slams my cheekbone pretty good when I shoot it. I keep playing around with different lengths on the stock and really pull the gun into my shoulder to no avail. I'm not too impressed with this set-up at this point. :uhoh:

Shot a friend's pistol-grip 12 ga Benelli M1, once. Very painful on the trigger finger wrist. My own M1 has a plain stock, it's a pussy cat in comparison. I like the pistol-grip look, but would never own a pistol-grip shotgun. IMO they magnify the recoil forces on your wrist. You should shoot one BEFORE you buy one. I should mention, I have an old football injury which makes my wrist some-what sensitive.

Just purchased a new 20ga 870 Express Tactical at the LGS.
Got a good deal as it had been in the rack a while.
It came with a Knoxx M4 style stock.
With that stock, the gun seemed clumsy to say the least.
Swapped over to a Superfeed Sport stock.
Slick, quick and handy.
