My grandfather has a Model 8 in .32 and a model 81 in .35 (I think). He wants to sell these guns, so I'd like to buy them, but I want to be able to make him a reasonable offer that won't bankrupt me and won't cheat him. I can find a couple Model 81s for sale on Gunbroker, so I have a vague idea about 81 pricing, but how about for a Model 8?

Both rifles are about 85-90%, with little metal wear and very few stock dings. Does the caliber make a difference in the value?

Thanks in advance. :)

Mike Irwin just got one from an online auction not too long ago...

His was a Model 81 in .300 Savage. It was in great shape, but I don't remember how much his winning bid was. He'll be along shortly. :)

I've not spent more than $100 on either of my two Remington/Browning autoloaders. But I've spent considerably more in restoring them. This one is willed to Mike:

With the benefit of the doubt on condition, each is worth around $250-300. Those guns are pretty common and few have any historical value. Most older sporting rifles don't have much collector interest (with, as always, an exception for Winchester).

A gun you can still easily buy ammo is more desireable in this kinda gun . I'd give gramps $150 for the .32 and $200 for the 81 in .35 . Family deserves a discount. OR just buy the .35 for 2 bills and have hin sell the .32 for $200 somewhere.:)

I bought a Model 8 at a auction for $100 in about 85-90% condition and sold it after 20 gun show's for $175, the 35, with readily availible ammo, is worth about $250 in about the same condition.....

Minor correction to my above post.

Mike Irwin will not be along shortly to comment on his Remington Model 81. :(
