My family recently inherited a Remington 03A3 serial # 4058***. I am curious about the possible history and value of this fine firearm. It is in good condition and looks stock except for the front sight. Instead of a front post it has a peep sight. We took it to Gander Mountain and the salesman did not know much about the rifle, but a different salesman walked by and said the front sight might be something special. I am waiting on a good picture of it and will post the picture of the sight as soon as I can. Any information about it, where I an get more information about it, the value of it or of the peep sight would be greatly appreciated.

Once it left the factory there's not much chance of telling you where it went and what it was used for.

If I understand you correctly you're saying the front sight is not a post and is instead some sort of peep?

If the picture below is what it looks like you're seeing a front sight cover over the front sight.

If it looks like the one below someone put an old Lyman sight on the front.

Out where the buses don't run.
Your receiver was made in 1942. The barrel will have a month an year on it that should be close.

The Springfield 1903 Rifles by Brophy is one of many books that has more information
