Greetings, I have a Remington 11-87 Premier Skeet. I would like to turn it into a home defender with a slug barrel and diffferent stock. It is currently marked 2-3/4" only. Will the gas system let me shoot slugs and buckshot in a new slug barrel? Will I damage the gun by doing so? Thanks for the great forum.

This is just an opinion here, but I would not make a home defender out of a nice gun like that. For about the same money you would invest in a new barrel and stock, you could by an 870 express and keep your nice 1187 intact. The the 870 express would probably come ready to shoot at least 3" loads if you feel the absolute need for them.

Would you want to trade or sell your 1187? If you don't want to keep both shotguns in my solution, I bet you could still come out ahead with more than enough to buy the 870. Whatever you decide, do it with conviction and do it justice by shooting it often.

It's your shhotgun, but this forum is for opinions. This is mine.

I gotta agree with milkman...you could do it, but I think it would be tragic to do that to such a nice gun, esp when you could pick up an ulta-customizable 870 at a gun store new for inside of $300 or used for inside of $200.

I also agree don't turn that nice gun into a home defense get an 870 or even an h&r pardener pump those go for like $200.

Yes, you can do so simply by replacing you existing skeet barrel (which is a target barrel) with the 11-87 field barrel of your choice. My recommendation would be a 21" rifle sighted smoothbore slug barrel like the
2nd & 3rd items discribed here:

You won't have to change your stock and you can shoot buck or slugs without damaging your gun.

My 11-87 Premier Trap gun has done double duty as a HD/deer gun with a 21" rifle sighted barrel.
