Remington 11-87 problem?

I've just bought one of these guns, first auto loader for a while, and I've not had the chance to fire it yet (until sunday) so I'm sitting here in the garden trying to load shells into the magazine. I had an 1100 a few years ago, so I'm very familiar with it.

But, I pull back the bolt to load the first shell, close the bolt with the button on the carrier assembly, but the shell will not go into the magazine.

Closer inspection shows that the cartridge interceptor latch is still up. I can pull this down with my finger, and the shell goes in no problem. Then I rack the slide to remove the first shell from the chamber (can't fire it in my garden!) and load the shell from the magazine. Rack the slide again and remove the shell.

Then start again, but the interceptor has not moved, so I have to pull it down with my finger again. Is this because there has been no recoil as I haven't fired the gun? Or is it because it's stiff from still from being new? (I don't recall this problem with my 1100) or is there a problem with it?

I hope not, it's a long drive back to the shop! Any help out there please guys?

Are you trying to load a shell into the magazine with the bolt open? If so that's a no-go. The bolt should be closed to load the magazine...

I think the interceptor is meant to move with the button on the carrier, but I can't be sure.

It's been so long since I used an 1100/1187 that I can't visualize the problem as described. Maybe it's that 'two peoples separated by a common language' thing again .

It's necessary to press the silver button in the lifter in order to load the magazine, yes. But getting the lifter up should fully clear the way to the magazine, as long as the action is cocked/hammer is back. Of course, the safety should be on as well...

Maybe whack the trigger guard pins out and spray some oil in it??

Might just be dry and/or dirty.

Can't think of much else to do rcmodel.

I just fired it a bit in my mates field, it fires fine and cycles another fine, but then when I reload the magazine the interceptor is up, blocking the mag.

I. TO LOAD THE CHAMBER AND MAGAZINE:
WARNING: Always check the shell for the correct gauge and length before loading the firearm. 1. Point the firearm in a safe direction.
2. Engage the safety mechanism. RED BAND WILL NOT SHOW.
3. Pull the operating handle fully rearward until the bolt is held open by the carrier latch. 4. Put one shell of the correct gauge and length through the ejection port. See Picture 14. 5. CAUTION: Keep your fingers away from the ejection port and operating handle.
6. Push upward on the carrier release to close the action. See Picture 8 on page 9.
THE FIREARM IS NOW LOADED.
7. Press another shell of the correct gauge and length against the carrier release. See Picture 15.
8. Push four (4) shells of the correct gauge and length one at a time fully forward into the magazine tube.

Trigger group likely assembled wrong. Disconnector needs to go under left side connector.

For reference this is the problem. The latch shown here ("interceptor") is not springing back when the lever assembly button is being pushed. Hence the magazine is still cut off. You can push it with your finger and it will go back, and you can fire the gun, but it's not right.

sure looks like you could use a little remoil in that gun in the photo, just a squirt don't soak it, cuz too much oil attracts burnt powder particles and other trash that will gum up your auto. hope you get her repaired. they are very good soft shooting shotguns.

I can't say I fully understand the problem, but you might make sure the extractor is going over the shell in the chamber. If the extractor doesn't go into battery, you cannot load the magazine. At least that's how it is on my 1100.
